The thing that I find interesting about Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison is that when they came out, a lot of people who were in their teens or early 20s as I was at the time, found them highly enjoyable.

I never in a million years would have thought Sandler would have one mainstream hit (over $100 million) and he's had 13. They say the biggest sign of a movie star is someone whose worst movies still make a lot of money.

Jack and Jill was widely considered to be one of the worst movies of 2011. It still made $74 million.

I like Adam Sandler, but I don't think there has been a movie star and an actor whose movies have had such incredible box office success that I would have a harder time explaining.

    He's goofy-funny, and people like goofy-funny.

It came out four months before Bowfinger. But I love anything with Bernie Mac.

The New York Times magazine cover story on The Canyons suggests that Lohan can still bring talent amid all the mess.

That story also represents the worst copy editing i have ever seen in the NYT. In at least three places they spelled the actor's name as both James Deen and James Dean in the same paragraph. And someone also appeared to have changed the word "texting" to "testing" multiple times.

Lohan isn't the only one struggling these days.

True, but who would have guessed that Sandler's run would have far outlasted Jim Carrey's?

I'm happy for him. He seems like a great guy and I respect that he still works with his friends from film school and SNL. I'm just surprised that he was able to parlay "goofy, funny guy" into just about 20 years as one of the biggest movie stars. Keep in mind, he was fired from SNL.

Jim Carrey will be around longer, at least I hope he is. He can go back to comedy tomorrow, and it'll be funny.

Mind drawing a blank so, have they done a movie together?

Carrey has been in a few really good movies - 'The Truman Show,' 'Man on the Moon' and 'I Love You, Phillip Morris' - and one brilliant movie - 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' - that mark him above the caliber of movies that made him famous.

Sandler has been in one very good movie - 'Punch Drunk Love - that rises above the caliber of his good, goofy comedies.
As far as Sandler comedies, I like 'Happy Gilmore,' 'The Waterboy' and 'The Wedding Singer.'

How are those "editing errors"? Did some clueless editor change those words in the copy?
(Not ragging on you Versatile -- I know you're just linking, but this drives me crazy. Maybe they were "spell check errors" but geez. I've made some errors that defy comprehension, but never would I blame them on an editor.)

My guess is an editor did the spell-check that led to those.
