Back to the job itself ... ::)
Anyone here know much about the structure of the place, as in number of writers, whether it's a universal desk, how much designing the editor does, etc.? I write almost exclusively at my 25K paper in Ohio and wouldn't mind a move into something like this but I also don't want to be chained to a desk five nights a week! I know all SE jobs aren't like that (my paper isn't) but all the same, it's good to know.

  2. I know that Longview has a main desk guy, so I don't think the SE would be stuck on the desk much at all. They have a guy who does desk by himself on Sunday's and Monday's and the main desk guy does (I think the entire section) the rest of the week.

Longview High is the big beat, but before last season, the former sports editor left that beat and they hired a full-time guy to handle the Longview beat. The SE took more of a role of editor, so I'm not sure if the new SE would take over the Longview beat. It is a good beat, even though Longview has blown its share of playoff games with top-notch talent as of late.

Longview's not a bad place to live. You're 35-40 minutes from Tyler (pop. 100,000) and an hour from Shreveport (for all you gamblers). It's the second-largest paper in NE Texas.

This is a nice location and the paper does a good job with preps. Have no clue what the gig would pay, but I'd think there would be chances to move to other Cox properties if you can get in the door.

Nah, Yawn asked a question that he could have answered himself had he bothered to read the ad. So, he can stop being a prick.

I hear that this may be filled internally with a former sports writer who moved over to a news beat about a year ago.

Angola! (why the hell the exclamation point is a real wonder to me) never makes mistakes. I bet he's never even skimmed an ad or post and not caught a detail.

Angola!, it must be good to be God. Or perfect.

    God, or perfect?

  9. That is very possible. He's been there a while and would be a good fit.
