    Byline boycotts and one-day walkouts merely are back-patting “Look at us!” moves. The public shrugs if it even knows, management laughs and takes names to remember for the future, and the publication or site rolls on. No one cares.

    “Oh, but this sends a message!”

    It doesn’t. Pittsburgh is a fine example. What happened in LA with the big ol’ walkout? Nothing. Bunch of social media posts. Bunch of shrugs. And after the big protest, back to work.
