And "Scentless Apprentice" at that. Great song.

Jack definitely said neither and was offered to view the person inside and totally refused.

At the end when Jack shows Kate the obituary he says to her "I thought you would go."
She answers "why would I?" So it has to be someone she cares nothing about or perhaps hates and someone that is neither friend or family to Jack but he cares.

Jack so desperately feels he made such a mistake leaving the island while Kate seems glad to be back. Best ending of a show in years. Gee, February seems a lifetime away.

One other thing...at the airport kate asks Jack if he's been drinking again and also the two have met at "the usual " place at the airport before. It seems as though they are back for a long time.

How do we know the "he" Kate referred to wasn't a child?

We don't. We don't know anything about what the plan is for the show.
And that is by design, keep us guessing and talking about the show until February.
The only thing for sure is that we're getting 48 more episodes, or three seasons of 16 shows, and worth noting that 3:16 has no meaning, as some suspected. (John 3:16, the one for God so loved the world He gave His only son.)

Here's a curiousity, why were the Others building a runway? Great line from Juliet when she said it was for the alien, then said she was kidding

Could it be Claire in the coffin? I definitely heard Jack say "either" to the friend or family question at the funeral home and maybe he pieced together that he was somehow related to Claire. And perhaps Kate wouldn't go to her funeral because she was rescued and left everyone else behind? Desmond only said he saw Claire and Aaron getting on a helicopter. Or maybe something happens in the upcoming seasons that leads Kate to view Claire with contempt?
After writing this, I'm probably way off, especially now that I remember reading that the newspaper clipping for a death referred to a "he." But then again, it wasn't an obit so that clipping could have been unrelated to the funeral?
Who knows...my head is spinning and that's why you've got to love this show.

Depends how old the child is. They could be back for years.

I don't remember it ever saying he/she and it was an obiturary, at least they made it seem it was?

How do we know it's not Jack's child with Kate?

Damn. Great episode. Great second half of the season, really.
Was a little disappointed that they offed Charlie; it took so long for that little room to fill that he could have easily gotten away. But his death was very nicely done.
And, yeah, Sayid with the legs was pretty hard core.
It seems to me like the Others are toast at this point. Be interesting to see where they take the show from here. I'm not sure I buy the "not really rescued by whoever it is on the other end of that phone" argument. Partly because they've already planted that idea in our heads.
Could be this eventually winds up to be sort of like "The Nine," about all these people even more lost back in the real world than they were on the island. I'm not sure they can sustain that for 48 episodes, though.
As for the man in the coffin: my guess is Ben. Locke's staying put. Sawyer's banging Kate. Ben has no one in the real world besides Jack to go to his funeral.
    But, overall, wow. Great show.

FWIW, closed captioning quotes Jack as saying "neither" at the funeral home, which makes more sense, anyway, given his overall reaction.
