Louisiana public school actively promotes Christianity

It hasn't made it anywhere in the country. Our congress and senate sessions typically open with a prayer (they even employ a chaplain). Most (if not all) state legislatures open with a prayer. Does that blow you away also?

Actually yes, being that simple research shows we were not founded as a Christian nation. Thomas Jefferson stopped a half-foot short of calling religion horseshit.

My simple research actually shows that the Establishment Clause was not included in the First Amendment to erect a separation of church and state, but rather to stop the federal government from impeding on states' ability to establish an official state church or religion.

    It's a federalism mechanism.

Not shocking at all, weak minded people always grasp at superstitions as simplistic ways to explain difficult concepts

Never mind that every state has passed a similarly prohibitive measure since then.

That's fine, and, more importantly, the First Amendment is enforced on the states via the Fifth Amendment, but we should get the history right.

    Also, the Fourteenth Amendment.

When the Paula Deen mess hit the fan, some lawyer from Dallas published one of those "Here's what we know ..." kind of things that was almost exclusively drawn from the plaintiff's allegations in that lawsuit, large chunks of which were thrown out IIRC. Sounds like at least some of this bit enjoys a similar provenance. I find it very hard to believe that a school would be this far over the line, so color me skeptical re: the degree of these transgressions.

Nope, we weren't founded as a Christian nation.

Nonetheless, here is the prayer that opened the first Continental Congress (delivered by the rector of Christ Church of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania): http://chaplain.house.gov/archive/continental.html

Yeah. What the fuck is wrong with those rednecks?

    They should know better.

During the past two hundred and seven years, all sessions of the Senate have been opened with prayer, strongly affirming the Senate's faith in God as Sovereign Lord of our Nation.
