I'm not sure I'm following you Ace but if you're asking me why the other organizations haven't taken the same stand? Your guess is as good as mine. I can certainly see those other organizations follow suit. We do live in a copy cat society.

I am saying that they have websites that are much better equipped to handle the live "coverage" of an event and would be more likely to want to prevent others from doing the same.

But I think the difference is that they are smart and see the value of their product getting wider exposure and are more willing to tell ESPN or whomever to take a hike.

    Just my thought.

    Duly noted.

Fact is, the reason they didn't cover regular season games is because Gannett's marching orders had them covering lifesports, such as regular stories on any elderly person jogging for the hell of it, or a 18-to-24 person out fishing for the hell of it. Real life, real news. The Gannett Way. Then people tweak them about the lack of coverage, and they show up at the typical events, again, with bells on.

I covered a college beat with a baseball team that was ranked. Still Football and basketball were no. 1. So you staff every basketball game through the end of the season, cover spring football then say hello to the baseball team just before the season is over.

That's how it works at 95 percent of the papers -- Gannett or not.

Yeah but being non-Gannett, you weren't also writing about that 90 year old jogger either were you?

If Louisville was owned by CNHI, they would have submitted their stories to the CNHI website, which isn't done automatically. CNHI has its own web master who doesn't work on weekends. So that story wouldn't have been available until today.

    That's how CNHI works.

Has anyone found a quote/statement from ESPN on this? It feels like this is the NCAA picking this fight. But I'm curious to hear if the WWL had a conversation with them first.

  10. I expect the Courier-Journal to have an ESPN spokesperson quoted soon, wouldn't you?

Yeah, when you think about it, ESPN is the one whose rights have purportedly been infringed upon.

That's strange, Mr. Rules. I was at the same regional and never saw said memo..... of course, I was the only member of my team's press corps doing any (sporadic) blogging.
