Hmm -- if you write three grafs and post it to your Web site as a story, isn't it not a blog?

Great scenario. I love every detail from this that makes the NCAA look stupid.

Not sure if this was pointed out already, but ncaasports.com has a CWS blog. It has pictures of fireworks! Yay!

I wish I were in the Rosenblatt press box right now. I'm thinking of all the things I could file from there that wouldn't be play-by-play, and asking myself how the NCAA could think it has a right to stop me.

For example, if you covered a team long enough to know the second baseman has trouble ranging to his left onto the grass to stop a ball and being able to halt his momentum enough to make a good throw, yet he does just that in a CWS game, wouldn't you want to make a note of it in your blog? Does that constitute play-by-play, or good analysis (soon) after the fact?

And if you give a score update now and again as part of your analysis, is that no different than the radio folks phoning in updates from the press box at games?

The more I think about this case, the more angry I get -- and the more I wish I were there.

NCAA no longer permits score updates for credentialed radio people. Hasn't allowed that for a while now.
    Just so you know.

Postseason? I could swear I heard radio folks giving updates recently. Maybe I'm just getting old. These were regular-season games, now that I think of it.

    Oh, and that's ludicrous.

Will probably out myself...but done. May not be all that exciting, but I'll be damned if the folks here can't publicize it on their own blogs.

  8. Give the NCAA a problem and it unfailingly resorts to the most bullheaded authoritarian alternative for solving it.
    It's amazing.
