I make that drive to work everyday (Lexington to Frankfort) and love every second of it. If you do come this way, stay away from 64 if you want to see the countryside.

If its late October, yes, but not early October.

The fall meet always ends Thanksgiving weekend so ... oh hell, I'll just look it up.

    Fall meet: Oct. 29-Nov. 25.

I'll take your word for it on that one, it's been a long time since I was able to see fall racing there.

The Downs fall meet is in November.

Per some of the recommendations below:

-- Slugger and Ali are a part of a growing museum block in downtown Louisville. If you're here on the first Friday in October, there's a trolley hop that will take you around all the galleries, restaurants and attractions on Main and Market streets

-- The St. James Art Fair is Oct 6-8. If you're here at that time, expect large crowds. World-renown art fair in Old Louisville

-- Downtown bars vs. Bardstown/Baxter bars. It's really a personal choice. The downtown bars (4th Street Live most notably) tend to be the chain bars, but there are some "trendy" places popping up on Market and Main (Check out Hotel 21C on Main -- I mistook the urinal in the men's room for a decorative waterfall) or The Jazz Factory at Glassworks if you like jazz. Bardstown/Baxter is more old-school Louisville. More independent places. Flanigan's is pretty good and Phoenix Hill has always been a personal favorite. Molly Malone's is good, too.

-- Do the Bourbon Trail. http://www.kybourbon.com/english/pages/trail.html

-- Keeneland's Fall Meet is Oct. 6-28. Never been, but I've been told I'm missing something special. Probably the only thing special in Lexington. :p

-- Bernheim Forest in Bullitt County -- not too far from the Beam distillery -- could show some beautiful colors when you're here.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Hey now....:p

  6. Don't know if you're interested, but there are lots of cool caves in Kentucky. Blanking right now on the specifics, but I seem to remember from my drives through Kentucky that a few of them are within about an hour or an hour and a half from Louisville. One of them is called Mamouth Cave I think.

The Louisville Slugger Museum is pretty cool, too.

Depending on how early in October, Keeneland also might be in its meet. There is not a more beautiful race track in America than Keeneland. Not a chance. It's in Lexington, which is about an 80 minute drive from Louisville. And it's a very pretty drive. A fall Friday, Saturday or Sunday afternoon at Keeneland is about as good as it gets.

Go across the river to Indiana for the Huber Winery.

You should check out Keeneland and do a tour of a horse farm. You can drive around all you want but you may need to get a reservation to tour one.

I also remember visiting a Daniel Boone fort when I was a kid but not sure if there is more than one or not. That was pretty cool. Maybe someone else can help with than.

I'll echo that. I'm not a big horse racing guy but I love Keeneland. You can also do a driving tour of the horse farms around Lexington.

Trixie's Gold Room on Preston Hwy. is always left off the 'family friendly' destination list. but I think they've cleaned up their act as of late.

You can enjoy IJAG's dream weekend! Keeneland by day (I don't know that I can ever express my love and adoration for that place), Caesar's casino in New Albany (about 30 minutes from Louisville) by night!

    All gambling, all the time!
