I'd seen some early social media comments hyping it up as one of the best episodes the show had ever done, so I was a bit disappointed due to excessive expectations.

It was OK. I really hope Don's getting some comeuppance soon, because he's just crapping all over everybody. Yeah, it's great that he once again came up with a brilliant save after screwing over everybody who depends on him, but those have got to run out eventually.

I hadn't read a word about it, but I also didn't like it as much as everyone else. I tend to prefer the weirder Mad Men episodes, which is why my favorite this season was "To Have and to Hold."

If Pete's right, Joan earned a million dollars based on her efforts. Adjusted for inflation that me be 10 million in today's dollars, maybe more.

Would you blow that guy for 10 million?

"I love puppies" is the funniest line in the history of the show, just edging out Betty's "my people are Nordic" from season 2 I believe and Julia Ormond's "Forget. My Name" later in the episode.
I'm with Sepinwall in that this show is at its most entertaining when it focuses on the office. I understand the need to plumb the depths of the societal challenges and the internal struggles of Don, Peggy, Pete and Joan, but it was almost like Weiner said, "OK, I've hit them over the head with depressing shit, let's have a little fun."
It doesn't have to be like that every week, but it was a breath of fresh air. It will only be a breath though. I don't see this working out long-term for anybody involved. Well, except for Bert. That fucking guy ...

Pete said Joan would be worth a million after they went public. Her shares now will be watered down in value, at least initially, because of the merger.

And ... probably? I really have no idea what I'd do with a penis in my face. But the logical answer is yes.

used an inflation calculator - it is a little bit north of $6 million in today's dollars. Of course this was before they lost Vicks, which using the same adjustment was worth $36 million in billings in today's money (which seems very high).

Don't forget, they dumped Jaguar as well. That gave them a big hit.

I just think it's strange that a company fires the client, rather than the other way around. I know it was explained on here in one of the previous MM threads, but I can't remember why advertising firms do that. Seems like they'd be happy with more clients and their money.

They fire clients if they think that the billing isn't worth the expense it takes to maintain it, or because they want to go after a bigger client in the same industry. It's considered a conflict of interest to represent two clients in the same field.
