But to what end? I understand telling them to take a hike. But to get that angry because they don't like the ad or share Don's vision?

Don't know. No way to read Don's mind but I would think that it was more than not liking the ad. These two were idiots. They wouldn't even call what they sold a "bikini". Maybe Don just thought "Enough is enough. These two guys are wasting my time and I've got more important things to do".

Or maybe he was just sending a very loud message to everyone in the office, "I'm the alpha dog. I'm in charge and don't fuck with me" Remember, he had been severely dressed down over the Ad World article.

But yeah, Don was kinda pissed at the entire world in that episode.

Is Don pissed because he didn't have to deal with this stuff before? For a guy who reveals nothing it's got to be difficult to take the front and centre role he now has.

    You'd think, but that Village/Ossinning commute's a bitch.

That was precisely my thought. All of a sudden, everyone in the office had balls to step to Don. Could you imagine Kinsey (Kinsey!) having a tantrum like that toward Don when they were at Sterling Cooper? No way. All of a sudden, they felt like they were Don's equals. Don's blowup told them, "I got you here. Respect that."

I thought it was a STRONG episode. Loved it. Finally got around to it tonight because I've been at a media days for the last two days. Can't wait for next week.

His employees know they are qualified because he brought them along. So much for an upper hand on people like Peggy.

This is interesting. What the Wall Street Journal today would ask Don Draper.

Just got a chance to watch the season opener and of course loved it. Roger Sterling still gets all the best lines. Was glad to see Don's date - she was in True Blood last season (and she does look like Virginia Mayo - http://www.lippsisters.com/2010/07/26/she-looks-like-virginia-mayo/).

I thought the blowup was designed.
Next it was off to the WSJ to do an interview where he would laid bare how the agency came about and because it is a *different* kind of agency, they don't have a problem telling clients to get out of their office with their stupid ideas and Draper's agency is the smart one.
Firing the bathing suit company was all about building the brand.

Also, Don said that every hour of his work day had to be accounted for and he was part of a cattle call of pitches by Jantzen and that they were unlikely to get the business -- if they were not going to be on board with his vision, then he had to move on.

They misquoted the show, I think: “Wooden leg? They’re so cheap they can’t even afford a whole reporter."

Yeah, nice effort by WSJ. I believe the quote was, "We're so small they can't even afford a whole reporter." Meaning they weren't a big enough deal to send a real reporter. That's what I got out of it anyway. Might need to rewatch.
