It was a chimpanzee, and it was in 1971:

But I kept thinking that was going to be Don's "big idea," especially after Peggy mentioned the elephant sitting/stepping on the Samsonite.

And lest we forget January Jones was the girl Stiffler was lusting after in the third American Pie movie.

Slattery had been all over TV in guest spots: on Sex & The City (IIRC, his character had a very odd predilection), on Desperate Housewives, on Ed. When Mad Men began, it was nice to see him finally get his "own" show.

Morse is one of the delights of the show to those familiar with his work . . .
in large part because he made his bones in HTSIBWRT, Frank Loesser's
    final masterpiece.

He was the only choice for Tru, aced it, and copped the Tony.

In the fey understatement department, there have been few better on Broadway. Did crack up when Draper played Sterling's autobio tape which referenced Cooper's loss of testicles.

To me at my age, it's odd to see Robert Morse even referenced in some "obscure" sense; to me, he has always seemed "mainstream" and I was like, "Hey, they got one name actor for Mad Men."

But if I think about it, he certainly isn't mainstream for this generation.

Also, the Dirty Dancing sequel set in Cuba.

Not at all . . . Succeed was, what, 48 years ago? He largely disappeared for extended
periods (I'm not going into what I understand were the reasons, tho Morse has . . .
by all means, Google), he's not right for everything, and he latched onto at least
one decent Broadway gig and then detatched from it (Cap'n Andy, in the most
recent revival of Show Boat) . . . but Cooper's a great part for him, and he's acing it.

It's too bad the movie version of How To Succeed didn't get the treatment it deserved . . . crappy cinematography, crudely-cut songs, et al . . . a shame.

She also does a commercial for a headache medicine.

It's for Excedrin. Pretty sure it was pre-Mad Men. I was watching a West Wing re-run on Bravo once when it came on and it was jarring to see Zoe Bartlett hawking pain meds.

Hmm, they've been running that commercial a lot lately. I guess they put it back in the rotation because she's famous now?

True, but only after seeing the show on Broadway did I realize how much was missing.
Seeing HTS as a kid, I thought it was genius.
Coming back to Broadway in the spring, by the way, with none other than Harry Potter in the lead.
