Even Sepinwall thought Joan went through with it. So those of us who figured she had it for sure are in good company. :)

Nah, you guys were both way off base there. :)

If this show was written by women, that scene in the doc's office just screamed that she was not going to do it.

And when Sally cried in Megan's arms when no one else could stop her tirade in the office, we should have seen that one coming from a mile away as well.

Oh, and Megan is making a teeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiibbbbbbbbbbbbbbllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeee decision here. It's good for everyone but her.

Teutonic Twats sounds like a great name for a WNBA fantasy team.

  4. Season 5 speculation.

    - Don marries Megan and next year Betty has a breakdown that might cost her marriage and kids. Now that Don has a stable home-life - he could get custody - this could set up Betty revealing the Dick Whitman secret.
    - Roger lands a major account like Dow Chemical or he becomes completely useless and takes a dive out his office window - could go either way.
    - Peter gets his name on the wall as firm is renamed Sterling, Campbell, Draper, Pryce.
    - Peggy gets into anal.
    - Joan has issues with the pregnancy - either a later term miscarriage or the child is born with special needs

    Interesting episode.
Couple things I haven't seen mentioned:
Ken is still the anti-Pete, even though they do the same job. Herefused to mix family and business, he even mentioned that he's not Pete, and everyone in the room was shocked.
Also, was Roger very subtly taking a shot at Don for marrying his secretary, something along the lines of "See, this is what you're supposed to do." maybe a crack to Don holding a grudge against Roger for marrying young?
Also, is Harry still married? Wasn't him cheating on his wife a major plot to end Season 1 and here he is name-dropping to a model to end this season?
People don't change, only the times.

    Harry is a creeper.

I feel like Ken is the cool guy everyone in the office wishes they could be. He can leave his work at home. Separate it from family.

I also feel like we have not seen the end of Faye. She was cool. I wanted to like her.

Wow. Well, remember Faye is one of just a handful of people who know about Dick Whitman. I'm guessing once she gets over the sad, she's gonna get mad about Don's decision to dump her and get married to someone else. Especially when she finds out the someone else is the secretary. That could come back to haunt Don/Dick as well. I don't think this is a bad thing for Megan. This is beyond her wildest dreams. And she'll be good for Don and the kids. I don't see him giving her a copy writing job. He likes the idea he has a good mother at last. I didn't see him going for Faye because of that. Plus, he's old-school. That's why he still wears a hat. He wants a woman who stays home and takes care of things. He sees the two camps: women like Peggy who work and women like Megan who stay home. I'm not too surprised about Joan keeping the baby. She might have seen it as her last chance. In those days, her age was older than it is now. I will be interested if he ends up with the Disney account. Loved that Peggy saved the agency by getting the new account. She's definitely starting to feel her power.

Magic: I thought Peggy kind of overstated the "save the agency" business. It was a quarter of a million account -- not much considering what has been lost.

I think it will be a function of how long the show goes as to how far Peggy goes. If this was a movie, it might be a story of somebody starting as a secretary and winding up as president of the company (or this company's equivalent).

We're not done with Faye. She knows too much.

Maybe but it will likely keep the banks away for a while and they won't have to lay off any more people.

It's not going to save the company in the short term but it might give it enough momentum that they can start shedding the "loser" moniker

Peggy definitely overstated it. She was just looking for more recognition + was pissed that Don is marrying his secretary. She thought him above that.

And Megan really doesn't know what she's in for - she has no clue about Dick Whitman.

Pretty good interview with Matt Weiner from after the showing of the finale:

Note that he says Don Draper is not modeled after Draper Daniels, as some have said.

I don't think Peggy or anyone else at SCDP thinks the $250,000 saves the company, it's more that since they signed new business they are shedding the "untouchable" label and other potential clients won't assume the agency will be out of business in six months.
