Along with lung cancer and cirrhosis of the liver and broken homes and consumerism run amok.

If anyone is using Mad Men as a roadmap instead of a discretionary, fictional and wholly unsustainable tale, dear god...

... and on a third career.
... with a wife like 15 years his younger and deeply into religion or crafts. Not sure which.

Sorry for being so off base, if I am, but that was the very clear picture I had painted in my mind.

Don't worry, IJAGs is painted just as clearly. :)

Sweet God, I wish it was this way for at least one night a week, but no, this is not the way it is. And it shouldn't be.

Re: RickStain -- I didn't spend enough time thinking about his career or his wife. Or their interests. But I'm STUNNED he's younger than I am.

Only in body. I'm old in spirit.

Only a few people are painted...

Rick just has the backstory of being a miser with money at a small weekly or daily in some Dakota where no kid ever makes an out or loses a game. :)

I'm not talking about the bad stuff - smoking at work, cheating on spouses, misogyny, drinking at work, etc., etc.

But it has helped make it "cool" to be a grown-up again. I think men needed that. Badly. I think it is statistically well-documented that men are struggling academically compared to women and everywhere else. I think that American men had a decades long identity crisis, and a maturity problem, and still do in many ways.

Indeed, you can make a case in the original projected five-season arc that
DD essentially peaked in Season III (with Suzanne), and it's all downhill
from here. Wouldn't be a shock.

Eh, people thought the same thing about Tony Soprano. We all thought we were watching a Greek tragedy where his demise was inevitable. NEver happened.

Well . . . it happened to virtually everybody else in the not-so-charmed circle, excepting Paulie, and Tony's immediate family. Otherwise,
the last half of Season Six was largely a pig roast, with bodies stacked up
    like cordwood.

I just watched the episode where her character was introduced. Good lord, the women on this show are gorgeous.
