Burger Chef ended up getting absorbed into Hardee's.

Burger Chef was on the square in my little town, the first fast-food in town. And the burgers were pretty good.

It was at least as big as Burger King for a while.

In 1982, per wikipedia. Of course, my dad still calls Burger King "Burger Chef" to this day. And it wasn't until I used google last night that I realized he was confusing the both of us. Also, he still calls the NFL team from Indy the "Baltimore Colts".

Our local Chevron refinery began life as Standard Oil, switching to Chevron in 1966. My grandfather still called it "Standard Oil" until the day he died in 2008.

When I got my first job at Hardee's in 1998, deep in some of the manuals and stuff were still references to Burger Chef.

Anything more incongruent than Don reading Portnoy's Complaint?

Don telling Peggy she'd have 25 ideas on her desk by noon? ;)

It was almost painful to watch the Don/Peggy switch. I went through that after a management flip -- the person I took under my wing became my boss, demoted me, promoted her friend and I had to do the equivalent of "writing 25 tags by lunch". Freaking humiliating although I was still making more than she was, even as she was my boss.

When in a down day at work, I quietly thank our local police department for nailing her on a DUI six months later. She was fired by week's end and I was promoted the following week.

    — If the Mets don't start playing a drunken Don Draper singing Meet the Mets as they take the field, I'll be disappointed.

    — Cool references to Kubrick and 2001 with the monolith-looking thing as the elevator door opens, the computer taking over and talk of Don clubbing someone over the head.

    — Roger at the commune was him at his best. Understanding of his daughter's need to find a new life, but not condoning it. It, strangely, reminded me of Johnny Cash singing "What Is The Truth" around that same time. Someone who sympathized with the counter culture but knew it wasn't going to find the answers it was seeking.

    — They really need to put Roger and Mona in the same room together more often. Having a real couple act those parts means the spats and the affection play so well.

Good topic. What's the best real-life couple on screen? Mona and Roger Sterling or Tammy and Ron Swanson? Others?

I didn't get Roger's change of heart. It did not seem like this was his strategy from the outset, but that he just got upset when she left to sleep with the hippie. Why was he so bothered?
