2001 wasn't the only Kubrick referenced. I caught a few Shining nods.

    - The computer salesman, whom Don vents to at length a la Jack Torrance, was named Lloyd, like the bartender in the Shining. Don and Jack both seem to believe that their counterpart is the devil (Don says his Lloyd is "known by many names").
    - Don walks into an empty room and hears a distant celebration
    - Ellery looked a lot like Danny chasing the secretary through the hall

Think about Roger abandoning his own family at times to fuck anything.

He would have made a good modern-day newspaper executive.

Allan Havey, who plays Lou, was a guest on the Adam Carolla podcast earlier this week. He was a really funny guy (he has a background in standup comedy), which is quite a departure from his character on the show.

Havey was considered a frontrunner to replace Letterman at NBC before it went to Conan, wasn't he?

They can do what they want with the plot, but it always strikes me as feeble when a kid justifies bad behavior by throwing it in the parent's face for doing likewise. Yeah, and apparently the kid ended up none too happy about it, right? So how does doing the same damn thing make it OK? I was glad Roger tried to yank her out of there, given she has a son in need of a mother. If she was just a wacked-out rich wife, let the granolas have her.

When we were watching and trying to guess who the computer guy might end up being/representing in real life, I seem to recall Don -- in pitching that as new business to his clod partners -- referring to it as an "Apple sitting there" or ready to be picked or something. 1969, so just a little nod, I'm guessing.

It was so obvious that was gonna be a body part in that box, and it was still awesome when it was.

They had to give Ben Feldman the crazy to ease his move to NBC.

Having a blond pregnant girl from Berkeley knocked up by a musician who's in prison shows up at Megan's door isn't a way for Weiner to make people stop talking about the Manson family, but I'm sure he knows that.

Also, Harry finally did something useful albeit in a completely unintentional way.
