The time Don spent in the bullpen with the creative team was priceless. Having to look at baby pictures while secretaries coming in to grab partners for the meeting without letting Don know showed how far he had fallen.

For me, Mad Men is all about identity and Betty has been taught to find hers only through her husband and her children. She's taken that message so much to heart that her son trading her sandwich becomes "Why don't my children love me?". I found her profoundly sad in this episode.

Peggy has to report to a shitty boss? Gee, sometimes it happens. Lateral moves can work.

The character so much follows the actress' Scientology leanings it's hysterical.

I don't know - I figured the sandwich was Betty and the gumdrops represented Megan.

And I think the women in the workplace having enough "gumption" to throw snits in the workplace IS a sign of progress. You never would have seen that when the show started. Only the men could have tantrums.

I actually think the moon landing could be next episode given The Monolith connection.

I with you. How the hell did that field trip and silly-assed issue about trading the sandwich for gumdrops bear any part in the narrative, to say nothing of being the freaking title of the show.
The only thing that would make Draper's family interesting to the plot is for him and Roger to stumble drunk into a Times Square peep show and see Sally working there.

Kind of like Geno Smith in the green room.

We should ask Matt Weiner. He'd be delighted not to tell us. ;)

There is that one point in the fall where a woman's leg appears to be kicking at him.

Pretty intense when Megan just picked him apart about his job.

Given that he had an offer from another firm, I was a little surprised he took it, too, although if he stays with SCP he maintains some sense of normalcy.

I recently read that the first season was supposed to have Harry Crane (or maybe Paul Kinsey?) jumping out of a window like the opening credits.

I could buy Crane, who was upset after he cheated on his wife the night of 1960 election when the office had the big party. At that point, he was pretty preachy how much he didn't partake in womanizing tactics.
