I get the voters who want to continue evaluating from the PED angle. It's the I won't vote for a guy on the first ballot because he's a hall of famer, just not a first-ballot hall of famer.

It bothers me that Biggio got 388 votes as a first-timer and will get 414 this next time

It bothered me that Alomar went from 397 to 523 from Year 1 to 2.
It bothered me that Larkin went from 278 to 361 from Year 1 to 2.
It bothered me that Bagwell went from 242 to 321 from Year 1 to 2.
It bothered me that Sanberg went from 244 to 309 from Year 1 to 2

It's a really stupid trickle down effect that has led to the crowding of the ballot and put the backlog beyond the PED guys.

Does it matter at all that fans seem to make the first-ballot distinction? My dad, a fan from the old school, would constantly say things like, "Frank Thomas, first ballot." LTL and others here have said writers shouldn't get too heavy on saber metrics, because, "fans don't care." Well, if fans distinguish first-ballo HOFers, should voters take that into account?

What are you, dense? If voters don't follow OOP's guidelines for Hall voting, they don't deserve a vote. You really should learn reading comprehension.

This thread was a lot more fun when people argued about the credentials of Tim Raines and Jack Morris.

Some of you seem like miserable people. Make that miserable, condescending people.

Yeah, it's become like talk radio. People don't want to engage in an intelligent debate, they just want to troll each other.

I swear I'm not "trolling." I truly don't believe the process is grievously in need of revamping over Jeff fucking Bagwell and his three-year wait.

You would think that writers who walked amongst these players for 15 years wouldn't have been so stupid and naive to believe the era was clean. They are as complicit as the MLBPA and MLB. The fawning over these magical years these players wee having without a critical thought as to why is embarrassing. So now they get a chance a chance to punish the players for making fools of them. Where were the keepers of the game when the sport resembled slow pitch?

Bullshit. They are doing everything in their power to punish guys they think might have done it.

And not all of them covered Piazza and Bagwell, for example. Most didn't cover them enough to have some inside knowledge that might justify their bullshit. I get that you have some desperate need to excuse their behavior, possibly just to be argumentative with me, but that is just a failing on your part.

And the line about Bonds is just stupid. I've said people should deal in facts, not guesswork, the exact same thing I say about every current and former player.

Also, I wasn't just talking about the Deadspin guy, though at least you are willing to be reasonable for once on that one. The guys who vote to protest something or to make some point rather than simply choosing those they think are deserving are abusing their votes.
