Here's a link to a column Marc Maturo wrote, part of which is about his ballot, but he doesn't really get into why he passed over some guys. He write that it is the first time he has voted for 10 players and that once again, he "wrote in" Pete Rose.

TR Sullivan went the strategic route: Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, Jack Morris, Mike Mussina, Rafael Palmeiro, Mike Piazza

He went Bagwell over Thomas because he's less worried about people voting for Thomas, he went with Mussina over Schilling and Palmeiro due to potential for falling off the ballot.

He dropped Raines, Sosa and Trammell to get the three newcomers on.

I don't have a ballot but I would find no reason to justify dropping Maddux, Glavine or Thomas. All three are no-brainers and it would matter not to me how many other voters will put them on their ballots.

If I was going to support a guy who I think merits more discussion, I wouldn't sacrifice somebody who has a strong overall case. I'd put aside somebody whose case is truly debatable, with my thought process being that there's still plenty of time to debate his case.

If it's the player's last year of eligibility, my thought process would be this: His case has been debated thoroughly so I now must make a final decision as to whether or not he belongs. In the case of Jack Morris, I have never been convinced, so if I had a ballot, I would not vote for him.

And of the three, Thomas is the one who is probably going to need the most help to get 75 percent. I have yet to find a ballot that doesn't include Maddux or Glavine but Thomas is already off a handful.

If you were going to strategically vote by removing one of them, Thomas will be the one who suffers the most

Richard Justice picks 10 and no Piazza: Bagwell, Biggio, Glavine, Maddux, Morris, Mussina, Raines, Schilling, Thomas, Trammell.

He dropped Bonds, Clemens and Edgar to go with Murphy falling off ballot to add the four newcomers.

Yep. That's pretty much the kind of voting I was talking about earlier on the thread - waiting on a newcomer because you're still voting for someone who has been on the ballot and don't have room for newcomers. I was told that this hypothesis constituted "trolling," and most likely that I was ignorant, an idiot, or had a "massive flaw in (my) argument," that I probably admitted to at some point.

Please stop lying, Dick. It's kinda pathetic that you even bother to do so on an anonymous message board.

You brought that up to counter my point that the reason Greg Maddux has no chance of getting in unanimously is because of the jackasses who refuse to ever vote for anybody on the first ballot for fear that someone might get 100 percent of the vote.

Your point does not disprove mine, no matter how desperately you want it to, and you were trolling.

    Wrong again, troll.

Pointing out that you are lying is a significant part of the post. Your dishonesty should be considered as part of the discussion.

You know as well as I do that there are voters who think it is their duty to ensure that no player ever gets in unanimously. To know that is true and still argue the point is trolling. Again, something that is relevant to the discussion.
