Re: 2014 BBWAA Baseball Hall of Fame ballot released

I'm a hockey awards voter...we had a very difficult season last year. The whole season was screwed-up because of the lockout, but that doesn't excuse what happened. The USA Today's Kevin Allen is our president, and he's looking at some things to fix it.

The one thing I feel is that organizations like ourselves and the BBWAA have to police themselves much better. The leaders know who are the good voters and the bad voters. A bad voter is not someone who disagrees with you, but someone who is factually incorrect in their voting. We had a major embarrassment last year and I thought those who were guilty should have lost their voting privileges.

Readers/viewers are too savvy now. We have to police ourselves much better.

If the BBWAA is so proud of what it does, they should make it mandatory for every voter to make their choices public. It's a hell of a lot easier to play games and misuse the ballot if you don't have to come clean publicly about it.

I agree with that. We ask for transparency in things, we should provide it.

That would be a very good start.

While it wasn't mandatory, 125 of the voters made their ballots public through the BBWAA website when asked. Another 100 or so did either on Twitter or in columns or blog posts. I would imagine if it every came to a majority vote, making all ballots public would pass.

His third right-hander is Schilling, unless he changed his vote from last year, which is what happened because based on that guess he could have dropped someone and added another.

Good research! I don't want to hijack the thread with this guessing game but I'll watch and let you guys know if someone gets it.
