Quoted just to save an example of a voter so desperate to punish players for the PED era that he doesn't even care if he lumps the innocent in with the guilty.

There is no evidence at all that Biggio used steroids. None. That is the problem with voters not caring whether or not they can prove PED use before they punish a Hall of Fame candidate for it.

Jack McCaffery gives us our first known Pete Rose write-in.

Ken Rosenthal's ballot: Maddux, Glavine, Bagwell, Biggio, Mussina, E. Martinez, F. Thomas, Piazza, Raines, Schilling.

I'll bet there's at least one who follows the ballot trackers, sees what the percentages looks like before the deadline next week and announces the strategic voting angle.

He has a vote and history has shown he is far from the only "kook," to borrow the word from the column in the link above, to have one.

Second. Marc Maturo had already done it (His column is linked earlier on the thread.)

And it makes a joke of an otherwise reasonable ballot, leaving off legitimate candidates like Bagwell and Raines to make a statement.

I still don't understand why Tim Raines doesn't get more voter love. Overshadowed by Ricky Henderson? Played too long so that's the last memory? In his prime, he was awesome.

And I can't wait to see who gives a vote to Ray Durham, Kenny Rogers, etc., etc. There's always a vote or two for guys who have absolutely no reason to be in the Hall.

Maturo's shouldn't really count because he voted for 10 guys and then put Rose on there. McCaffery made Rose his tenth guy. But point taken.

Why is Pete Rose more worthy than Joe Jackson? Or, at least, if you voted for Rose, why wouldn't you vote for Jackson?

Your point is taken as well.

I prefer what Maturo did, not wasting a spot on Rose. I'm sick of the crap like what McCaffrey did. He even acknowledged that he left deserving players off his ballot so he could make a statement about Rose.

I have a hard time seeing Mussina as a Hall of Famer. He joined a team that had won 3 of the last 4 World Series, then they never won again during his 8 years as a Yankee. Then they win a World Series immediately after he retires.
