The Hall of Fame can lift the restriction against voting for anyone on the "permanently ineligible" list without MLB removing him from that list.

Yes, but they take their cues on the matter from MLB. He wouldn't be banned from the Hall if he wasn't banned from MLB.

Fair enough. If Selig actually does retire, Rose might have a chance.

Tangent to this years HOF debate, but Id be OK with Rose getting in if his plaque said something like "as a manager, bet on baseball and accepted a lifetime ban yada yada" and he was still barred from ever working for a team.

I think that's a good compromise between punishing him for what he did and still recognizing what he did as a player.

Barry Rozner becomes the first known split vote on Bonds/Clemens. He voted for Bonds but not Clemens.

Doesn't say why and votes for every other major pitcher available.

I think that would be a great way to do it. Induct him, but make sure no one ever forgets what he did.

I don't know if you could do that with the PED guys.

I would have no problem doing it with the guys who were actually suspended -- the Palmeiros, Manny, Braun, A-Rod's of the world. But for the others, I don't know how you could do it.

That's one of the problems with the whole steroids thing, that there is no easy line to draw. There are guys all along the spectrum from "100 percent cheated" and "suspected." Everyone has a right to draw their line anywhere, but it's impossible to get a consensus.

That's where we disagree. Unfortunately, you have voters punishing guys for PED use and they draw the line at "somebody, somewhere accused the guy of doing it." I don't know how it gets fixed, other than perhaps shaming voters who abuse the privilege, but it's gotten to be a joke when guys like Craig Biggio are being left off ballots for suspicion of PED use.

It's funny and illuminating how the true analysts of the thread try to work around the trolls. Soldier on, friends. Soldier on.

If you are leaving guys off your ballot for the suspicions of PED use, your ballot should be blank.

Pete Abraham splits Bonds-Clemens by flipping a coin because of a full ballot and strategic voting. Went with Clemens
