Been a hell of a year. First the NCAA was brought to its knees by the Johnny Football Player Rebellion, and now the Hall of Fame is being shaken to its core.

It's just exciting to be around to see history in the making.

    I think so.
The purchase of this ballot is being done publicly and if someone is doing this, how can you possibly confirm this hasn't been done in the past? It's impossible and makes the process, IMO, a complete fraud. Will you trust the process after this? Bonds has millions ... you're telling me he couldn't buy all the votes he needed to get in?
Hopefully the BBWAA realizes the process is flawed (not as bad as the Heisman, but close) and figure out a way to make this right.

I mentioned it earlier, but didn't get any responses. I'm hoping the writer who sold it is giving the money to charity and, most importantly, some highly-respected writer who can pen a great column explaining himself.

That said, Deadspin buying one or two or five votes doesn't cause the BBWAA to lose credibility (and some will say the voters were the ones who lost any credibility, they won't necessarily be wrong either). And it certainly won't cause it to rethink who gets a vote, nor boot the over-50 crowd.

Don't forget the BCS chaos(!) that occurred when Alabama, Oregon, Baylor, Florida State and Ohio State all finished undefeated.

I used a little hyperbole there.
I've read it here a couple times, but I think if someone gets in with, say, over 85 percent of the vote and you didn't vote for them, you lose your vote.
All votes should be made public.
If you don't cover a beat - team or national - you lose your vote.

Why should not voting with the rest of the crowd cause a voter to be ejected?

Because that person is doing so because a) if Old Timer wasn't a first-ballot HOF, neither can this guy; b) they don't care. There's no reason Maddux doesn't get 100 percent. None.
If 85 is too low, what about 90?

If the BBWAA loses any credibility, it can take it back very easily by taking the votes away from anybody who participates in this, which should be done anyway.

Not sure about taking the vote away, but any voter who leaves a player who gets at least 90 percent off the ballot should have to publicly explain why not. We all know some voters are going to leave Maddux off their ballots just to ensure that nobody ever gets in unanimously. By forcing them to explain themselves, their credibility takes the hit it deserves. Either they turned in a ballot that they knew was wrong or they lie to cover it up.
