I talked to a friend who is a voter recently and he said he lumps Bagwell with the PED users and that's why he won't vote for him, at least not for now. His reasoning was the similar "look at him" from certain time periods where he looks like he was inflated from one season to the next.

He's voting for Maddux, Glavine, Biggio and Raines. He's completely disgusted that Piazza is being given a bit of a pass by voters when "everybody knew he used"

Whether I agree with him or not, I think his reasoning is consistent.

And therefore anyone that doesn't vote for him is an idiot?

If voters gave a player a pass when "they knew" he was using during his career, then they have to give a pass when voting for him. If you wouldn't write it, then you can't use it do avoid voting for him.

I wouldn't go so far as to call people names like that, no.

Anyone who doesn't vote for him is wrong. But not because of WAR, which is merely a soup containing the ingredients that make Mussia a HOFer.

Keep in mind that, if Jeff Pearlman's sources are to be believed, Piazza actually told a lot of these guys that he used.

So, if he told you it off the record, you have to vote for him?

Apparently, he's even gone into great detail on the topic with more than a few writers.

Nice logic, but the "punish the PED users!" faction don't see it that way.

The voter Mizzou is talking about may be consistent, but he is absolutely misusing his vote. He is punishing Bagwell for PED use when he has no evidence at all that Bagwell used.

He's not punishing Bagwell. He has 12 more years, I believe, to vote for Bagwell.

Yes, if you couldn't write it then it doesn't count.
You gave the player immunity by letting him confess to essentially a serious felony within the game. That immunity carries over.

There are times when off the record information is too costly to hear, this is one of those times. Live with your bargain.

One thing that I almost wish we would have had during this whole sordid affair was some player to be nailed - a Maddux or a Glavine, for example - which would have had everyone saying, "That guy?!"

But as it is, pretty much everyone who has been revealed as a user either through testing or soft evidence like the Mitchell Report or BALCO investigation were guys who we already suspected of using. So this has convinced voters, I think, that they are pretty good at determining who used and who didn't.

Oh, we did. Inarguably the worst position player in the major leagues. Not sure why everyone has already forgotten, though:
