You covered the players of the so called PED era I believe, are you bitter that you had no clue what was going on right under your nose? I know Thome didn't use because he was nice to you and he wouldn't cheat on his wife but did you never have any suspicions of others while you covered them?

You know what then, turn in a ballot that reads:

    Maddux
    Morris

It was the HOF ballot equivalent of a sports radio caller. Have a take and suck.

    Why Maddux?

If he feels that strongly than his ballot should have been blank.

    I covered it after testing.

And I've maintained here that, if I had a vote, I don't know whether I'd ever vote for Bonds and Clemens. Probably not, and definitely not yet.

This isn't to justify it, but I suspect that it was because Morris was in his last year on the ballot. Kind of an empty protest it ends up being because of that.

So what do we use as the threshold now? If a player test positive once does that mean the keepers of the game will never vote for him?

But he says he won't vote for anybody in the steroid era. Did Morris pitch in the 60's?

That's a great question. David Ortiz seems like he'll be the litmus test for that. He tested positive early in his career, reportedly, and has gone on to put together a Hall of Fame career as an exemplary citizen since then. What happens if a Jordan Schafer or Jose Quintana tests positive as a minor leaguer, then goes on to a 15-20 year HOF career with no further blemishes. What if Ryan Braun does? What about Andy Pettite?

Bonds and Clemens's biggest sin doesn't seem to be juicing so much as being really, really good at juicing.

For sure. I was the first person here to note that. I think his heart was in the right place, and he hitched his wagon to the wrong horse.
