You know, a couple of years when he had really embarrassing slash lines might have swayed some people.

    Absolutely. 163 OPS+ (11th all-time). Career OBP of .394 for starters.

And by "without PEDs," I mean, "if one were not considering PEDs as part of their voting criteria."

    Ah, I misunderstood. Question withdrawn.

Tim Brown on Maddux. The Eddie Perez part is great stuff.

If Keith Law's retweets are correct, the 10-limit ballot got Biggio. People wanted to vote for him but were worried about other candidates dropping off.

I bet Michael Silverman, among others, would like a redo -- From his ballot column "Here’s an example of my warped logic: Because Biggio received the most support — 68.2 percent — of any candidate last year, I figured he can live without my one vote this year."

When I postulated something like this early in the thread, as regards Maddux, I was called a "troll."

I could see it for someone like Maddux, who was going to make it anyway. Someone like Biggio, I'm not so sure. But he'll make it next year so it won't be a big deal.

Here's an interesting note: Of the 6 people going into the Hall of Fame in July, 5 played for or managed the Braves (Maddux, Glavine, Cox, Torre, La Russa). The only one who didn't is Thomas, who is from Georgia.

(La Russa played briefly in Atlanta in 1971).

The toughest thing with McGwire is trying to pinpoint the year on his stat line that he started using PEDs.

As scary as it might seem, but it looks like early on at USC.

I wonder if Biggio is pissed at him and anyone who submitted a blank ballot so as not to vote for anyone from the steroid era.
