You never answered my question, Mank. Why would a guy as great as Jeter need a hitting coach? Nobody is as good as Jeter so how could somebody give him advice? HE should be the hitting coach, no? You have no answer do you?

Sure, post-season statistics have never counted in MLB history, but it's for Jetes! They have to change it for The Captain, don't they?! And 1,300 more hits? Hell, he's got another 3,000 in him? All they need to do is bring Babe Ruth back from the dead to be his pitching coach!

Jeter's five Gold Gloves matter about as much as the one Rafael Palmiero won the year he played almost exclusively at DH.

Um, if the Yankees win it all this year, a certain closer would also become a member of the "Win 6 WS rings in the last 50 years" crowd.

And you can argue that another guy could also join the 6-ring club, although I don't think he was on the official roster for one of the title teams.

Jetes was 3 for 3 yesterday with a walk. He was up with two out in the bottom of the 8th when Gardner was caught stealing to end the inning.

Way to cost the Captain a 4 for 4 day!

Still wondering why the greatest player ever needs a hitting coach.

I'm surprised they haven't replaced him yet, but I can see not wanting to change coaches this late in the season. Look for them to quietly pink-slip Long after the season. With all the uncertainty in Los Angeles, the time is right to lure Mattingly back to the Yankees to be hitting coach. Trust me, Mr. Steinbrenner will not abide Long's lack of results. The Yankees hitters have regressed (or not developed to expectations) under his tutelage. Granderson can keep him as his personal instructor, keep him away from Tex, Jeter, Arod, etc.

Um, Manky, I'd really hate to be the one to break this to you. But ....

Mr. Steinbrenner is dead. He died last year.

I know, it's hard to believe, but it's true.

And neither Hank nor Hal is as nuts as their father. Hank tried, and looked like such an idiot, that Hal told him to shut up.
