Jetes made an error once when he mistakenly thought Ted Williams was a better player than he is.

Derek Jeter made Chuck Norris cry by telling him his cargo shorts made him look fat.

Derek Jeter remained four hits shy of tying Rod Carew for 22nd on the all-time hit list, going 0-for-2 with a walk in last night's loss. Carew finished his career with 3,053 hits.

Since coming off the disabled list on July 4, Jeter is batting .342 (55-for-161) in 39 games and raised his average from .256 to .291.

In addition, Jeter was hitting .172 (11-for-64) with runners in scoring position when he went on the DL. He is at .241 after going 15-for-44 (.341) in the clutch.

Across Jeter's past 13 games he is 6-for-13 (.462) with seven RBIs with runners in scoring position.

A lot of stupidity on this thread. But I just want to point out the fallacious reasoning. Ted Williams played half his career before blacks were allowed in baseball, as you said. That doesn't NECESSARILY mean he had an easier path than Jeter, which is your conclusion. When Williams came into baseball in 1939, there were 16 major league teams.

When Jeter came into the league there were 28 teams. Two years into his career, when the league expanded, there were 30 teams.

It is just as easy to asssume -- and you are making a lot of assumptions when you compare DIFFERENT eras -- that the fact that black players were excluded was at least canceled out by the fact that with fewer teams. It was POSSIBLE (I am not making a conclusion) that it was harder to make it to the majors then because there were many fewer spots.

I'm not saying that is the case. But I am saying that you made a false A implies B conclusion, when there is C, D (smaller population of potential baseball players in 1939), E, F, G, etc. ... that you didn't account for.

And regardless of that, you are about the only person on earth who thinks Derek Jeter is anywhere near the player Ted Williams was. Jeter was one of the top players during his day. No one has ever thought he is the best player among his peers. Ted Williams was in that conversation. You could argue DiMaggio and you could argue Williams. Jeter will never be in that kind of conversation. Not enough power, not the stats. Jeter has been a winner. And he plays for the most popular team. And he has put up really good numbers. And he is certainly a Hall of Famer. You should just leave it at that and retire.

Chuck Norris uses the dazzle from Derek Jeter's smile to power his electric car.

When you do the math on the size of the population that the league was pulling from then vs. now, 16 teams was far more diluted than 30 teams is today.
