Derek Jeter's next stroke of genius will be to quarterback the Denver Broncos to a Super Bowl title.

Wherever Derek Jeter spits, an oak tree grows.

Nah, he'll just round up 10 other Yankees and win the Super Bowl with them!

I'm not that good. I analyzed past seasons by Jeter, injury history and the changing offensive climate to arrive at that expected date. I also figured that Jeter will transition to DH over the next few years and probably become more of a power hitter (possibly sacrificing some of his batting average). I have him declining from a .335 batting average next year to his final year hitting .275 but with greater power. It's guesswork but that's where I see his next few years.

As he moves farther up the all time rankings it's going to get very hard for people to deny his greatness.

That's the most intelligent thing you've said on this thread!

NOBODY has said he's not a great player. You're just WAY over the top with your man crush. Gets a little tough to swallow after a while.

    Very well-reasoned post.

I see where you are coming from but I don't think the game has been diluted compared to Williams' era. The population has also exploded since then, and MLB is also drawing from a much more international base than 60 years ago. I also don't see how anyone can deny that an average player in 2011 is better than an average player in 1941. It was easier to dominate in that era because of the weaker competition...the only player to come close to Ted William's numbers was Barry Bonds and he was roided up beyond belief.

What players from Jeter's era would you argue are better? To me, the only players on his level are ARod, Griffey, Pujols, Chipper Jones, and Bonds. And we know that at least 2 of those players had chemical help.

I was ridiculed for suggesting Jeter was better than Frank Thomas. The Big Hurt was probably the greatest hitter since Ted Williams from 1990-97, but after that he was nothing special. He had one elite season in his final 10 years (2000) and there were probably 10 1B/DH players that were just as good as him or better over that span. Whatever you want to say about Jeter, you can't deny that he wasn't among the the top 5 players at his position every year of his career.

From 2001 to present, Jeter has hit .335 and above exactly ... one time (.343 in '06), plus a .334 average in '09. He's hit less than .300 in four of those seasons.

So where the hell are you getting him with a .335 batting average when he has barely touched that mark in the last decade?

No, you were ridiculed for saying he is as good as Ted Williams. You're still wrong about the comparison to Thomas, but your argument isn't quite as batshit crazy on that one.

Since he came off the DL he has hit well over .335...I except that trend to continue into a big 2012. I'm also anticipating the Yankees will install a new hitting coach and this will have a positive effect on his stats.
