Certainly the way he has played the past month my .310 prediction looks modest. I love seeing the doubters silenced.

Anyone ready to reopen the discussion over when Jeter will set the all-time hit record?

Jetes is not infallible, even the best get into hitting slumps and it's good that he had someone to turn to for help outside the organization, since Long is mailing it in.

    Jeter's regular season line: .313/.383/.449
    Jeter's postseason line: .309/.377/.472

So, four points of AVG, 6 points of OBP, but a SLG% 23 points higher. I'd say he actually hits better in the playoffs, considering he faces better pitchers in October.

He's 5 points away from leading the Yankees in hitting.

    Think about that a minute.

Top hitter on the 2nd highest scoring team in the AL.

He's 1199 hits away from the record.

Since July 31, 2005 he has 1199 hits. It took him slightly over 6 years to do that. He also had what will go down as his worst year, 2010 in the middle of that run. He's also had good health during that span, so I think 6 years to get to Rose is a good prediction.

It just amazes me how quickly people were ready to write him off after last year. Great hitters are great hitters. Chipper Jones had a season where he hit .240 several years ago and then went on to win a couple batting titles.

Jeter has kept himself in great shape and has several more prime years ahead of him. And if the demands of playing SS 150 games a year are too much for him as he moves into his 40s, DH beckons. We're witnessing history, folks.

Yes, we are. But not in the way you're thinking.

OK, give us your prediction of how Jeter will finish out his career. I've demonstrated how he will get to 4256.

A list of the players Jeter has moved past on the all-time hits list in 2011:

Al Simmons, Rogers Hornsby, Willie Keeler, Jake Beckley, Barry Bonds, Frank Robinson, Sam Crawford, Sam Rice, Roberto Clemente, Al Kaline, Wade Boggs, Rafael Palmeiro, Lou Brock, Rod Carew, and Rickey Henderson. From 37th all time to 21st. Only two more hits and he passes Craig Biggio and moves up to 20th.

With a typical year in 2012, he will pass Dave Winfield, Tony Gwynn, Robin Yount, Paul Waner, George Brett, Cal Ripken, Nap Lajoie, Eddie Murray, and Willie Mays. Possibly Eddie Collins and Paul Molitor as well, which would propel him to 9th all time.

I was saying we are witnessing SportsJournalists.com history. This easily is the biggest fanboyism I've seen on here...as well as the quickest downward spiral (performance art division). Either that, or you're Minka.

Definitely not Minka since reports now say they have broken up.

Maybe that is why they broke up.
