    Re: Running Derek Jeter Thread

Yankee Blue Print for success after 2011:

Move Jeter to Designated hitter. This will allow Jeter to focus 100% of his attention on hitting. I think he could have a big year, 30-40 homers with a .280-.350 batting average.

Now you ask who will play short? Tulowiski. The Rockies have a habit of dumping players in their prime. Jimenez this year and Holliday a couple years back. NY can get him for a couple decent prospects.

They also need to add a slugger to the outfield, Swisher isn't cutting it. Sign Pujols and put him in right (he's played it before). If Pujols decides to stay in STL then inquire about Josh Hamilton's availability.

Final step, lure Mattingly back as hitting coach. They haven't been the same since he left

    Gary Denbo!

    (Wouldn't be surprised honestly.)

    That might actually be better.

Let's face it, Girardi is not Joe Torre. Putting Don Mattingly under him as an assistant coach might make him a little insecure.

Best evidence yet that Manky is performance art, mocking the most delusional of Yankee fanboys.

I admit it's pie in the sky, but the Yankees have the resources to do it. They just need to be smart about when to empty the bank for a player. I like Tex but if they had been patient they would have their pick between Pujols and Fielder at 1B after this season.

Again, more evidence. Only an idiot fanboy or somebody impersonating one on SportsJournalists.com would complain about Teixeira, who played a huge part in them winning the World Series.

But you finally went too far, even for you, with that last one. Jeter is going to hit 30 or 40 homers at this age after never hitting more than 24? Not without serious chemical help. Maybe you just finally accepted that his resurgence must be chemically-aided.

Not that it's much of a resurgance. Even with the hot streak, he is still slugging below .400, something he had never done before 2010.

The Tulowitzki bit was genius, too. The misspelling of the name. The delusion that the Rockies are going to give away one of the truly elite players in the game -- not only a fantastic hitter, but a far better defender on his worst day than Jeter ever was on his best.

They dumped Jimenez because he hasn't been the same since that great first half in 2010 and his velocity hasn't bounced back. They think he's going to continue to fade, so they got a deal while they could.

    Pujols to right field? Comedy.

Meh, I'm bored. I stayed away from the thread for a few days. Just caught back up.

The worst part is, I know full well it's performance art, but it's just so perfectly targeted I can't help but respond.

I'm not complaining about Tex. I even said I liked him. But is he better than Fielder or Pujols? No.

Well OK Jeter hasn't shown that kind of power yet. That probably was a bit much. I'll revise that downward to 25-30 homers. Still very good for a DH in this age.

Tulowitzki. My bad. If the Yankees wanted him bad enough they could make it happen. I'd even give up Granderson to make it happen.

Pujols to right is a joke? I recall several years ago they made a big trade and put a slugger at a position he'd never played before. I'm talking about ARod moving to third. THat seemed to work out ok.

    Indeed. It's very well-done.

    I still miss Kermit.

sportsguydave's parody of an angry liberal might be the best of 'em all though.
