Not the same thing, though thank you for reminding us of one of the Captain's more selfish decisions. A true leader would have agreed to move for the superior defensive shortstop.

You can argue the Yankees are getting as poor a return on investment as any team in baseball.

And I'm not hearing any retardspeak about Granderson's outlier season.

Further proof of your immense baseball knowledge, Manks. In baseball, we have these things called managers. And we have these other things called coaches. What we don't have are assistant coaches. But thanks for playing.

In hindsight, the way things worked out was best. Given ARod's injuries, it has been easier to replace him at 3rd, defensively, then it would have been to replace him at SS. If Jeter went to 3B and ARod at SS, do you move Jeter back and forth? No. Would Jeter have gone to CF? then no Granderson. In LF? Rather have Gardner be a weak hitting LFer than Jeter. Would Jeter have been as good a 3B as ARod? Don't think so.

um, the doubters are still lurking, and justifiably so. he's an early-season month away from still hitting .270. and, as i've mentioned before out of concern ('cause i'm a jeter admirer, remember), he's still not driving the ball with consistency, has shown NO home-run power in this 'turnaround' month, and seems back buried in his weak ground ball funk.

i hope i'm wrong. probably never wanted to be wrong more than i am about this. but i trust what my eyes see, and my eyes warn me to remain very concerned.

and to pile on my concerns, jeter has done several alarming unjeterean things of late, both at the plate and on the bases. most recently: wtf was he thinking with that lameass bunt attempt with gardener on first leading off the game last night? whether attempting to sacrifice or bunt for a hit, it's awful not to first give gardener a chance to steal second, so jeter could then bunt him over to third with one out.

    a rare stoopid play.

Sacrificing in the first inning is moronic on its own

And to be fair, A-Rod worked his ass off to become an excellent third baseman. I'm not sure Jeter would have been able to do the same.

Irrelevant to the point. At the time, the Yankees' best option was to play the superior defender at short, but Alex Rodriguez was willing to move and Captain Intangibles was not.

This thread is the Interwebs reincarnation of Andy Kaufman wrestling a woman. Holy shit, my head hurts.

I hope it goes for 100 pages.

Don't take everything so literally, you know what I meant.

If Mattingly was hitting coach, every time the Yankees went on a 3 game losing streak Girardi would be worried about getting fired. I like him but he's no Joe Torre.

I will agree with this. I don't think Jeter could play third as well as ARod has. Jeter is a shortstop, and a damn good one. No shame in that.

I very much doubt that was his decision. Of course, if he overruled them we'd be hearing sarcastic comments about "Captain Intangibles" rocking the boat.
