I'm going to refrain from talking about Jeter for a few days. Everyone just needs to wait and see what happens :)

Your subjective opinion on anything related to Jeter is meaningless. You have proven that.

Teixeira is the far superior hitter and defender. Any objective observer knows that.

Thank you for bringing up Peralta. That's another guy who belongs ahead of Jeter on the MVP ballot. Man, that list is getting LONG. Since it is the 2011 MVP Award, past performance is irrelevant. This year? Peralta has been significantly better.

Jeter is like the Energizer Bunny - it's amazing how many great players have come along since Jetes debuted in '95 that have peaked and declined while he continues to play at an all-star level:

    Vladimir Guerrero
    Normar Garciaparra
    Scott Rolen
    Ichiro Suzuki
    Alfonso Soriano
    Joe Mauer
    Johnny Damon
    Bobby Abreu
    Varitek
    Magglio Ordonez
    Jason Giambi
    Carl Crawford
    Adam Dunn
    Todd Helton
    Andruw Jones
    Carlos Beltran

Manky, you couldn't even stay away for two full days! Since you're back, I just noticed "Jetes" is hitting .297 with five homers and 56 RBI in 482 AB. Meanwhile, Jhonny Peralta is hitting .307 with 18 HR and 77 RBI in 466 AB. For a team that isn't as good as the Yankees. And "Jetes" is an MVP candidate? He wouldn't even start at SS for the Tigers! You, sir, are a moron.

    Re: Running Derek Jeter Thread

Jeter is, at best, the fifth-best player on his own team this year. And that is generous. He clearly ranks below Cano, Granderson, Teixeira and Sabathia. I'd put him behind Rivera, too, but I can see putting an every-day shortstop ahead of a closer.

He also is not even the best shortstop in the American League this year. Peralta is better. The weakness in Peralta's game is defense, but he's no worse than Jeter and doesn't have Teixeira's fantastic glove bailing him out all the time. Offensively, Peralta is clearly better despite having a weaker team around him.

I wonder if this little dose of reality will make Manky cry.

Since coming back from his injury on July 4th, Jeter has played in 53 games. Over that stretch, he has hit .351, scored 34 runs, drove in 36, hit three home runs and stole eight bases.

Take that over a full season...

    .351
    102 runs
    108 RBI
    24 SBs
    9 HRs

    Not too shabby.
