Like a new mother appraises her ugly baby. Speaking of that, when are you due with Jetes Jr.?

If he were still around, I am sure Kermit would say "kermit, just spit carbonated beverage on computer screen"

    Very well done.

Exactly. Manky, nobody is farther from the truth when evaluating Jeter than you are. Nobody.

Manky, if Jeter was drafted by the White Sox out of high school, would he be as great, greater or a lesser player?

Actually most people that follow the game of baseball agree with me that Jeter is one of the greatest players of all time. The only places where he doesn't get his due are the MVP ballot and this message board.

'hate' is an awfully strong word. but, even as a jeter appreciator myself, what has developed is certainly an animous towards you, our young, unknowing, pot-stirring, button-pushing, delusional friend.

I would just like one of the people here that keeps slamming Jeter to admit that he is one of the best players of his era.

Who is better? Many of the players who put up 'better' stats were roided up. When you separate out the cheaters, I think the only players from this era who are on Jetes' level are Chipper Jones and Jim Thome (jury is still out on Pujols). And neither of those players were the defensive whiz that Jeter was and still is. Case closed.

"One of the greatest players of all time" is at the very best, vague. Nobody with any clue agrees with you that Jeter is anywhere close to guys like Ted Williams. Nobody with a clue thinks Jeter is working his way into the AL MVP race. Nobody with a clue about baseball thinks he deserved the MVP award over Joe Mauer in 2009. Those are just three examples of your delusions.

He gets his due in the MVP voting. He has never earned one. He had maybe one season where there was a legitimate argument (when Morneau beat him out) and even that one the argument the other way is just as strong.

Great. Now find somebody who is slamming Jeter. Nobody is. Pointing out that he isn't as good as Ted Williams was, that he did not deserve the 2009 MVP Award and that he is nowhere near being a legitimate contender for AL MVP this season is not slamming him. It is simply an attempt to be accurate rather than babble on like a starstruck fanboy like you.

So you agree that he is one of the top 3 players of his era?

    Re: Running Derek Jeter Thread

My argument is today's players are better than ever so one of the very best of this era (JETER) is by definition better than a player of 60 years ago (Ted).

Ted Williams was great for his era but in today's game I think he would hit like Nick Johnson. Good batting eye and some power but nothing special.
