I think this is the first negative thing our boy has said about the Captain ...

Rivera's the greatest reliever but the greatest pitcher of the last 15 years?

I say it's a tossup between Halladay and Big Unit.

A true Yankees fan would never say that.

Well he did ignore Red Sox great and long-time Yankee enemy Pedro Martinez. He also didn't acknowledge Greg Maddux who "inexplicably" turned down the great Yankees' money to sign with the Braves.

The Yankees are a true team that is greater than the sum of its parts. The Yankees have had many great, even Hall of Fame level pitchers over their dynasty years. Sabathia, Clemens, Cone, Wells, Mussina, Pettitte, etc.

Randy Johnson was so dominant from 1996-2004 that he wins.

We're talking best of the last 15 years, so 1996-2011. Maddux only had a couple dominant years in that timeframe. Pedro was injured too much and had trouble finishing games.

I know there's more to "dominance" than just ERA, but it should be noted, that from the 1996-2011 time span you mentioned, Maddux finished in the top 4 in ERA six times. Randy Johnson was in the top 4 in ERA six times.

I totally understand putting Randy over Maddux. I just personally feel Greg Maddux is one of the most underrated "great" pitchers of the past 25-30 years.

Maddux definitely also is up there. Also Clemens. Can anyone really say Halladay and Johnson are definitely better than Clemens. If Halladay doesn't pitch after this season no way you can say he was better than Clemens. Even if he maintains his pace for a couple more years his numbers won't match Clemens. That was the point about Rivera. There have been guys that were better or as good over a couple seasons, like Gagne, but over the last 15 years Rivera is simply the best closer.

I think some people are going to eliminate Clemens, or at least lower his value, because of the steroid use.

I just received a Tweet reporting Joe Mauer is likely out for the rest of the season with mild pneumonia.

I think it's time for sportswriters to finally right an egregious wrong and schedule a re-vote for 2009 AL MVP.
