Seriously? Any sympathy I had for him, gone.

If I'm the Twins owner, I'm looking for a way to void his contract.

And Mr. Buddah, I have posted exactly that- the 2009 MVP vote was a travesty. Mauer did not deserve to win, the two hot months he had that year in no way compares to the 10+ years of dominance by Jeter.

If they void his contract, Pavano should owe the Yankees about $40 mil.

If Mauer had any class he would give back nearly all of his pay this year to the Twins, or donate it to charity. This is shaping up to be the worst long-term contract ever.

i see Clemens kind of like Bonds, Hall of Famer before roiding up, but moved up the all-time great list after roids. we don't know for sure when either started but it's pretty certain when Bonds discovered Balco and when Clemens trained with McNamee. but neither failed an MLB test so the criteria is going to be fuzzy. again the only point is that i don't think anyone can argue there's a better closer than Rivera over the last 15 years. pretty hard to say the same for any starting pitcher.

I will point out that Clemens (and ARod) did not juice while with the Yankees.

Of course not. Just wearing the pinstripes gave them super human powers. And Mickey Mantle wasn't a huge drunk throughout his career. Well, at least not when he played for the Yankees. Babe Ruth either. Oh wait, they don't count. They played before 1995.

You misinterpret me. The Yankees did not have a culture that encouraged steroid use like the clubhouses in Texas, Houston, San Diego, Oakland, etc. A lot of the credit for that must go to Torre and Jeter.

Mantle's alcoholism is well known. No one denies this. It's hard to say that it actually hurt him as he was the greatest player of his era. And it has nothing to do with steroids.

You meant Jeter did not deserve to win after his two hot months, right?

Mauer hit over .350 for four of the five months he played.

Jetey hit over .350 just two of the six months he played.

And to repeat several people, Jetey's 10 years means nothing in the single season of 2009. Just his one 2009 season.

You know what, I've moved past that. I'm confident when historians talk about the great baseball players of this era, Jeter will head the list. Mauer...a footnote at best.

    You're the expert on footnotes.

Which may turn out to be true, but it still doesn't change how ridiculous your argument about the 2009 MVP is. Mauer was the best player in the American League that year and it wasn't even close.
