meanwhile, forget jeter reaching .300 this season. he's plummeting and may struggle to finish above .290. and, despite jis july-aurgust 'revival,' his final numbers are going to be way below his pre-'10 standards. all extra bases down dramatically, again spotlighting how he no longer hits the nall hard or drive it into the gaps with any consistency. judging by the whole of 2010-11, july-august appears the fluke, not the rest.

sorry, mankster. i wish it wasn't so. but jeter hits like a girl these days -- with apologies to all girls who drive the ball consistently.

The Yankees won yesterday because of Derek Jeter's calmness. You just can't teach that. I know he grounded out to short in the first, the third, the fifth and struck out in the ninth, but that bleeder single in the seventh was the most important and won the game. It kept the momentum of the sixth inning going, and caused Villanueva to give up the home run to Granderson. That's why he's Captain Clutch.

He went 2-5 today. A couple more days and he'll be back at .300. I don't know how you can claim to be a Jetes fan and take delight in seeing him slump.
