I'm sure that someone knows how to find it better than me, but when was the last time any shortstop that old had a slash line like .300/.356/.393?

But Smth was 32, Jeter is 37.

If the Yankees win it all this season, with the Red Sox folding and Jeter getting 3,000, I would guess it would be one of the all-time Yankee seasons, and that is saying something.

I'm certain the answer is "No." Another feather in Jetes' cap.

You can throw out his early season stats, as it's clear he was injured. In the second half of the season he has hit .359. I will go on record as saying he will finish in the top 5 in batting next year.

Stunning only if you prematurely gave up on him. The guy was the best all-around player in the league in 2009, then you guys buried him after a so-so 2010.

a 'so-so 2010' was alarming. when the struggles continued through july '11, there was plenty of reason for the most devoted jeter fans not named manky to think, 'well, what a great run he's had but he's human after all.'

Well who was proven right? I was the lone voice telling all of you this was just a blip and the real Jeter would emerge.

I still think the Yankees need to replace Kevin Long after the season. I tell you what's alarming - when the top hitter has to turn to someone outside the clubhouse to help get him out of the slump. Long is not earning his keep.

Jeter isn't even the best active player that's only been on one team.

That distinction belongs to Chipper Jones.

Yeah...why don't you ask Chipper that. I guarantee 99% of all players would trade their careers for Jeter's. The 1% is Rivera who has been there for all the championships and is regarded as the greatest reliever of all time. That's it.

So there are only 100 players?

There are 25 (or 40) per team, 30 teams. You can do the math.
