Aside from that, Manky really can't seem to grasp the concept of players' skills declining as they age. He might have to admit that his boy Jetes is in decline if he accepted that one.

To Jetes, age is nothing more than a meaningless number ... like his batting average!

Yes, usually. There are some notable counter-examples, Adrian Beltre being one. It's all speculative, and yes I'm aware that you can't expect that Clemente would have kept hitting .340 forever, but he seems like someone that would age well.

I wouldn't say he's in decline, but he probably will not have another year like 1999 or 2006 or 2009 again. Those are career years. And part of it is that runs are harder to come by in 2011 than a few years ago. We're approaching the offensive levels of the 1980s. He's still an above average shortstop and would start on any team.

It's too early to judge if he's peaked, but I have to admit I'm disappointed he hasn't really caught fire yet. Still batting .273. Come to think of it, none of the Yankee hitters are hitting for a great average (compared to career norms) this year. Might be time to give Kevin Long the boot.

I was hoping to have a nice discussion about Clemente. I might have overstated it a little bit, he is not on the level of Mays or Ted Williams or Bonds, but he really doesn't seem to get mentioned on that 2nd-tier right below the immortals.

Of course you wouldn't say he's on the decline.

During a rain delay, didn't Jetes once win a clubhouse game of Connect Four in three moves?

Was that mentioned in the article by the former Yankees batboy?

I heard it was only because A-Rod was in an illegal high-stakes poker game at the time.

Jetes is always on top when he has sex because he never screws up.
