This really should have been on the journalism board.

Maybe we should have a 'Guess the Scoop' pool.

I thought it would've fit well on the Random Thoughts thread.

I think JW summed it up well, both sides. The attack on the media part really should be stressed though, if you're trying to offer us information and are trying to get us interested in something do not over generalize and accuse us all of being lazy and incapable or unwilling to do our jobs. However, I think it was fairly easy to read between the lines to figure out what his 'scoop' is going to deal with - some behind the scenes story on McGwire and drug use in professional baseball/sports. As well, it would probably help that we as journalists didn't always jump to the offensive when someone outside our clique is trying to chip in something worthwhile, even if it just turns out to be useful background information. It will take five minutes to check out his 'spiel on You Tube whenever he posts it, howmany of use waste 10 times that every day looking useless shit on You Tube? If you don't buy it all you have to do is move on and close the window.

Come on ... Giambi was advised by his lawyers not to say anything about his grand jury testimony (I'm pretty sure that would have been illegal), so he apologized as best he could without getting himself in legal trouble. We all knew what he said in the grand jury. He knew we all knew what he said. So he apologized, but didn't repeat what was said in the grand jury. We all got the idea.

Anyone who thinks he "didn't really apologize" is either a Red Sox fan, an A's fan or someone who is really just looking to pick nits.

I won't excuse Giambi. He was as much a cheat as Bonds, Sheffield and dozens of other cheats who weren't caught up in the Balco web. But the one thing he did, which others didn't, was go before the grand jury and tell the truth. He didn't perjure himself. It's a sad day when you actually have to pat a guy on the back for telling the truth under oath, but in this case, he may have been the only one. And even though he didn't stand up and confess all to the public, he showed more remorse for his actions than Bonds or McGwire or Sheffield or Palmiero, with his apologies--because everyone, including Giambi, knew what he was apologizing for, even though he couldn't say. I'm not going to give the guy a gold medal, but he's faced the music to a greater degree than those other players.

Sounds to me like a Yankee fan apologizing for his guy.

My point was Giambi does not deserve credit for publicly coming clean. He did not do that by choice. He admitted what he had done to the grand jury behind closed doors, I'm sure on advice of his lawyers, and the information leaked.

He cheated and then he apologized for it only after everybody knew he had admitted to cheating.

  8. Which still is more than everyone but Canseco and Caminiti have done to this point. And I'm neither a Giambi apologist nor a Yankees fan.

    OK guys,

    Lots to respond to.

DyePack, Football_bat, Whitlock, Beef03, and Bigpern23 have pretty much nailed it.

    Here is the deal:

1.) I apologize if I came of too hard or negative. Honestly, that was not my intent - but hey, when you post at 3am (PST) and you have been sitting back for years while one of your good friends has been ripped so viciously (and I think unfairly) in the media by most who are not that informed on the subject - well I guess it gives you a bad taste and perhaps a bit of an attitude.

But look, I actually like a lot of you guys and am actually trying to help you if you can see that (some certainly can judging by the large up-tick in people subscribing to my You Tube account).

Further, I realize your job is hard (I have done it having a sports talk radio show in Sac) especially when guys like Mark don't want to talk & you all need to generate a story - many each day. I have told Mark that and often he does not care and sure, that sucks - but that does not in turn give you the right to rip a guy unfairly and write the easiest story in the world that goes something like this:

(Jose says Mark used, Mark is big, Mark won't talk to us = Mark used illegal drugs = that is why he hit lots of HR's & thus does not deserve to be in the HOF)

Note: this is the same kind of grudge that a lot of you guys now have against Bonds & why you punk him out (and many of you outright admit it, unreal! Your like, "Barry deserves this he is a di@@ and won't talk to us"). For you it may be settling the score, but most fans (your readers/vieweres/listeners) hate it (this is also true about Peter King's travel stories, or daughter, or the food spread in the press box).

THE BOTTOM LINE IS FANS DON'T WANT YOU TO KEEP GUYS OUT OF THE HALL OF FAME BECAUSE SPORTS WRITERS DON'T LIKE THEM FOR WHATEVER REASON

2.) I don't have perfect grammer or spelling - so what? This is not a test or court brief its a message board. Moreover, I find it ironic that some who criticize me on this don't spell my name right.

3.) My resume goes far beyond just Mark. Look my website will be up soon and you can check that out. Moreover, I have been vetted by the top media guys and found to be completely legit when this whole Mark thing went down and I talked to Tim Brown and about 30 other people at major media outlets.

The bottom line is I am an expert on this issue - elite training and athletic development with & without performance enhancing drugs and substances. Given the huge volume of stories written about this the last several years I think that is quite relevant.

4.) What is my angle? exactly what I said it was in the first post. To get this story out as best and fairly as possible

    CONTIUNED ON NEXT POST

    CONTINUED FROM LAST POST

5.) Tell us now or your full of s@@@ and a fraud - uh no. Again, I am a man of my word and will be doing that video for all to see at the same time. If you want to get it first then subscribe to my videos

Again, here is a link of me to check out and then you can subscribe

6.) John has no scoop. Uh that is the farthest from the truth. I have many many scoops on many subjects & can help you get viewers/readers/listeners.

Again, this is what makes the average person upset at the media - the arrogance and sometimes superficial nature of the coverage (which is probably why I had a slightly bad attitude & again I apologize).

The point is some Sports J's define "scoop" in this context to irrefutable proof that Mark did or did not use steroids and that is it. Well, there is a LOT more to this then that and as you all now see Mark is only one guy in this big mess - but yeah the one guy everyone loves to talk about besides Barry.

What kills me is that yeah you guys are all colleagues and stuff and that is cool - but let's face it you all compete against each other every day. So what I don't understand is why are most writing the same damn tired superficial stories (Mark is a cheater and sucks). Do you guys have any idea the extent of this or how to move to solve it? I do & that is a fact.

7.) I am trying to get famous & make money off of this - uh no. I mean how would I even do that this way?

Again, if I wanted to make money off of Mark or this I would write a book (like FW & Williams - except I would actually know stuff myself and would not have to steal info and break the law) put in some juicy stuff and then come on the shows and pimp it. But honestly, I am not about that - NEVER have been. Let's see how many books do you think I could have sold if I did something like that when Mark broke the record...hmm, yeah.

Even if the book was just about the guy, the training, and adventures we had together (tons). I mean there seemed to be a lot of books put out then by Sports J's about Mark - were they trying to cash in? Ah, so its ok for them but not anyone else who may have first hand knowledge...interesting.

Anyway, no I am not trying to make money off of Mark - or to be more precise unduly use him. Certainly, I get credit for the real work I did with him & that is fair I am a professional.

I am interested in making money off of elite drug-free training and promoting that, which I think we can all agree is sorely needed now more than ever.

8.) Why You Tube? I am a better talker than writer and I don't want to be taken out of context and want everyone to have fair access to this at the same time.

9.) What will the scoop(s) be? You will have to wait but as Whitlock and Beef03 said it should be fairly clear.

10.) Will I "tell all" on You Tube? As stated before no. This will be some key info and context that can help you with stories and will be a good lead in to real interviews and discussions I am willing to have with good journalists.

11.) Why are you here on this board? Uh because I was a sports J as well & you guys vote for the Hall of Fame, this story is timely, and many are punking Mark out when he deserves to be in the HOF and I want to try to get some real facts out.

12.) You are arrogant and are only trying to promote yourself? Asked and answered. More importantly, and your not? Look, again I am not trying to bicker but let's face it a lot of the people come to this site to see who is talking about them &/or find dirt/gossip about others in the industry. It is what it is...don't hate the player, hate the game.

13.) Your a punk, full of s@@@, your brother is a punk, "Witlock deserves you", etc, etc. Uh ok, Your certainly entitled to your opinion but here is what is great. I came on here and told the truth straight up with credibility and will deliver on this video and much more. Moreover, I post with my full REAL name not some anonymous pseudonym to hide behind for whatever reason. I respect people that can stand behind what they say and take responsibility (like Witlock, Tim Cowlishaw, etc.) especially on controversial issues like this with little upside. You should respect me for that as well.

I hope this clears up some questions

Now I will try to get this video done so you guys can check it out.

    Thanks again,

    John

John-no offense to you or your stature in the legal muscle enhancement community, but you sound like a complete nitwit. Talk or don't talk, but if you do, please say something more interesting than anything you've posted here.
