When wife #2 and I split, I got pissed one night and took of my ring, throwing into the floorboard of my car. Months later, my car is being detailed during an oil change and the shop's manager, assistant manager and an employee all come over to me with very serious, worried expressions on their faces.

"Sir, I'm sorry to tell you this, but we think we may have accidentally vacuumed up your wedding ring."

Fortunately, they retrieved it from the suction system and returned it to me, giving me a discount along the way. That same day, I found $50 I'd hidden in my house, at a time when I really needed it. Considering it all good luck, I stuck that now-useless wedding ring back under the floormat in the hopes it would continue to bring me good luck.

Wear mine almost all the time... except if I'm sleeping, showering, doing housework, or at the gym. Or on summer days when for some reason my fingers swell up and the ring is too tight (on those days my wife tells me "if its too tight or uncomfortable then don't wear it, I understand")

About a month, if you wear it 24/7.

Yes, they can. I married one and actually like having four cats around the house.

    Sorry, Sportschick. :(

    It's a sociological experiment.

My job, from time to time, requires that I work with/around equipment with a lot of moving parts -- helicopters and guns, etc. -- so I always take it off to prevent accidents. I also take it off when swimming, showering, sleeping, etc.

I hardly ever take off my wedding ring. When I was married 14 years ago, I had only owned one other ring in my life. I thought wearing a ring would be uncomfortable. If it was, I thought I would just wear it on a chain around my neck. I had the ring resized once to accomodate for weight gain.

Dirk - what you might want to do is to see if you can add a stone to the wedding ring. There is a place in Los Angeles downtown where they call it the jewelry building, and I think that is usually the best price you can get. In New York, there is the diamond district around 47th Street. They can put diamonds on for a reasonable price - reasonable for diamonds.

when i was 19 one of my friends died. his death eventually led to his parents' divorce. about a year later i was up at my friend's house drinking jack daniels with his father in his shop. dad, who was getting pretty drunk, took off the wedding ring he still was wearing, snipped the thing with a big pair of wire cutters, pulled it open with a pair of pliers, then sharpened one end on his grinder and punched a small hole on the other end.

dude stuck it in his ear and wore it for about a year.

yet another great jack daniels story.
