Marshall is playing for an unbeaten season. UAB is playing for its life.

Oh, here's a new one. What happened to UAB Football was, we are assured, because of what was revealed in the Carr report and finances, and the decision was made after looking at the numbers.

Funny thing though, our contract to use Legion Field was renewed back in July. The contract was for one season.

I'll make you a little wager. What do you want to bet that eventually the full Carr report surfaces, and it runs to 600 pages or so, and they cherry picked 12 and patched together that bullshit "report' to cover their asses?

    "Our" contract?

You're a member of the team?

You want a free story, if you're good on the financial side?

Take a look at the number of people on the UA BoT that work for Bryant Bank or have direct connections with it, and then take a look at who it is that buys all those bonds that are getting issued to cover construction in T-Town.

Don't bother looking at the web page with the board's bios. Won't be there. Here. Check the last couple of graphs. http://www.al.com/news/tuscaloosa/index.ssf/2014/11/university_of_alabama_professo.html

Add in that the one true UAB person on that board, Barbara Humphrey, is married to ex-UA RB Bobby Humphery, who works for, wait for it, Bryant Bank.

Or that's what I hear anyhow, I could be wrong. Shrug.

Piss off. I think that it has long been established that I'm a long time UAB fan and quite partisan on this matter. I note that you didn't come up with imaginative reasons why they didn't sign a multi year deal as they have in the past.

Uhoh. Looks like President Watts also pissed off the mayor and city council.

Your reasons for grieving are your own.
But try to look at it with a clear, stoic eye.

If we can't come up with a way to make it work, it *will* go. Or we'll reset. Basically, after ten years of eating dirt, UAB fans are tired, mad as hell, and are not going to take it anymore.

In the meantime, we shall fight them on the beaches, we shall fight them on the landing grounds, etc.

If we lose, well, how are we worse off than we were yesterday?

I was standing outside the locker room when the players came out after the coaches had told them officially that it was over, and before they met with that worm, Watts. Grown men were crying and unashamed, and they had no reason to be. Everyone around them, their hearts went out to those kids and the coaches, the team as family. Then they came out after talking to him, crying and madder than hell, because Watts has the bedside manner of a tree surgeon.

It was an incredibly raw and emotional moment, the calm before the storm.

Well, they were coming off a season in which they drew 10,000 fans. Not a lot of confidence in continuing the product.

BTW, the whole "our" and "we" thing is why college sports are so fucked up these days on so many levels.

I'm not a reporter, and I'm not attempting to write as though I were, not on this. I tried to be at least somewhat neutral for the first hundred posts or so, and then I just said "Fuckit".

My wife and I have had season tickets for twenty years. Deal.

There isn't a whole lot that pops up on this board that I'll get passionate about. State an opinion, attempt to defend it, be right, be wrong, yeah, sure.

On this one, it's not like that. I'm sorry if it offends your sensibilities. I refer you to the first two paragraphs on page one, post one.

A terrible injustice is being done by power mad men who are offended if their will is thwarted. They're bullies who use money and power and political influence to do just as they please, and the little people just don't count in their world. I'm tired of being bullied. You guys were (ahem) lucky enough to be the spot I started to unload, that's all. It's good that you are neutral to skeptical to outright doubting, it keeps me focused. It also helps that facts keep coming out that I can throw on the fire.

Kevin Scarbinsky has requested the Legion Field turnstile count records in order to compare them to the announced attendance, for instance. That might get interesting. He probably did so after seeing this:

In the past I'd mention stuff like that and I was just that crazy UAB guy with all the conspiracy theories, blaming everything on the trustees. This time they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and they've been improvising ever since, and they're leaving too many loose ends to tug on.

I hope Hofstra never loses its basketball program.

Looks to me like a legit 9k in the bottom pic, and a seriously inflated 8k in the first pic.

What difference does this really make? Do you think a turnstile count will reveal that the program has actually been wildly profitable? My guess is they were fudging the numbers back in 2011 and are simply giving an accurate count now.

Bottom line, a public university program that has that much trouble trying to draw 10K doesn't really belong in FBS football. Those are the programs that the FCS division was created for.
