    Are you being stupid on purpose? No, beer is not taken off the shelves because it leads to DUIs, but there are strict laws concerning its consumption and purchase because alcohol in the hands of idiots causes deaths.

    In an upset, the Supreme Court -- 5-4, of course -- upheld the federal law governing straw purchasers.

    Actually, had Kennedy gone the other way, straw-purchase laws would essentially not exist.

    A lot of people are now convinced this means you can't buy firearms as gifts now. For example, if a father were to buy a hunting rifle for his son's birthday he could be charged.

    Although not the holding of the decision (since it wasn't the question before the Court), the majority opinion does say that gift transfers are not subject to this provision and distinguishes gift purchases from straw purchases.

    until homeowner's and renter's insurance charges a premium for having firearms in the home nothing will change. It's not the laws that will change people, its the hit in the wallet.
