I'm under no allusion that the average Muslim is going to speak out against extremists, but it would be nice to see some Muslims with clout use it to speak against them.

It's that other religious group that seems intent on ignoring reality that is bothersome.

LOL. Yeah, as if one spokesperson speaks for everyone -- or even the majority -- in 22 countries.

“Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi strongly condemns the terrorist attack on Charlie Hebdo newspaper in Paris.”

And, what did he say in Arabic? Condemning it in English doesn't mean much.

I'm also guessing he didn't answer questions, but just put out a statement. Because I'll bet anything he wouldn't make a strong defense for Charlie Hebdo's right to publish cartoons mocking Islam.

    Wow was that bad.

The Getty image that ran in the Daily News a few years ago; it featured a Jew pushing Mohammed in a wheelchair. They blurred out the image of Mohammed, but left alone the stereotypical image of the Jewish man.

But, I guess that wasn't tweaking anyone's nose.

You mean, like the imams of mosques in and around Paris?

Or the prime ministers of majority-Muslim countries like Malaysia?

    Or the king of Morocco?

Or the foreign ministries of UAE, Egypt, Lebanon, Indonesia, Turkey or others?

I think if someone like Az Akeem or Amad Rashad spoke out it would end the bloodshed.

Was thinking more along the lines of this country, but I will hand it to the French of all shapes and sizes, They've been remarkable the past few days.

There's a whole lot of bullshit in those responses.

"This is not about religion. This is about political power, this is about uneducated, ignorant youth who are being manipulated by clerics and extremists."

    Nope.

"Whomever the attackers are, and whatever the cause may be, nothing justifies the taking of life."

It is a pretty widely-held belief in a lot of Muslim communities around the world that apostates should be punished with death. I could cite a bunch of passages from the Hadiths, but I'll spare you.

"The sanctity of human life is central to our faith. That lives could taken in this manner for any cause is appalling and unjustifiable."

The sanctity of Muslim life, sure. Not nonbelievers.

"This attack in no way represents the teachings of our beloved prophet Muhammad."

Plenty of information out there on Muhammad's penchant for violence.

    "Islam denounces any violence.”

They must be reading a different Qur'an than I am.

I'm sure there's an extremely logical reason why the Council on American-Islamic Relations, basically the Islamic NAACP, doesn't count.

Warner Brothers got a lot of flack for this cartoon that depicted Bugs Bunny
    as a terrorist.

I'm sure it would be offended by the term "Islamic NAACP." It should be.
