    I'll ask again:

What's more likely, Tiger wins, or misses the cut?

So, Tiger plays in the Masters and then takes another 358 days off?

He is gonna get barbecued at the first non-Masters he plays in.

    I can't wait for that.

Simon, it's not beyond the realm of possibility he only plays the four majors this year. It's all he really cares about, and such a reduced schedule certainly would indicate, rightly or wrongly, he's making untangling his personal life a high priority still.
Let's be realistic here. Whatever is going on in Woods' relationship with his wife, she's not more important to him than golf, and that would be true if he was the most sexually faithful husband who ever lived.

  4. Is a job only about money, though? I just don't buy the logic. This may be an entertaining way for us to pass a Sunday in front of the TV. It's his job, with everything that entails. Money. Identity. Duty. None of us would be able to take months and months off from work to sort out a personal problem. That's life. I have no problem with him coming back for the Masters, and don't see it as either a confirmation or repudiation of his dedication to his family.

  5. I'll take Tiger .. to win.
And heaven help his fellow PGA players if he wins at Augusta.

    Grand. Slam.

The only meaningful identity he has now is being a golfer. The good-family-man identity got flushed.

Golf is not his duty. We don't know if Elin gave her blessing for Augusta, maybe she did. But if she'd didn't? His duty is to keep staying home and get his sh*t together.

My question is, if he wins, who does he embrace off the 18th hole? So many iconic images of Tiger are those moments...with Dad, with the kids, etc. I guess his mom will show up, but what if she doesn't? Hug for Mark Steinberg? Ari?

  7. A Tiger win at Augusta would really make people squirm. We like redemption stories, but we want to watch the person wallow through difficulties first, right? Tiger winning would be a great story, but it seems like the celebratory aspect would be awkward and mute because, well, he was kind of a dick to his family.

  8. I still don't understand. How are work and family mutually exclusive? I understand the workaholic thing can strain a family, but at some point, we all have to get back to normal. What time period away would have been adequate? A year? Two years? Why is the standard different for Tiger Woods than the cheating bastard across the cubicle from any of us?

I'd say one month after a press conference in which you supposedly bared your soul and vowed to work on being a better person/father/spouse is a little soon to announce your return to a sport. Two years, yeah, that's probably extreme. But this feels awfully abrupt to me. Just my opinion.

No one is considering the fact Elin could be on board with this.

The more he plays, the more money he makes.

The more money he makes, the more money she takes.

  11. I agree. I don't know that I'll be rooting for Tiger and I'm sure it will make people squirm.

Re tabloid media: Kevin Frazier -- former Keith Olbermann partner on Fox Sports and now an anchor for Entertainment Tonight -- was on the Golf Channel explaining how he's been explaining to his ET colleagues that they won't get any closer to the Masters course than Martha Burk did.
