But he doesn't win it every year. (And -- it can't be repeated enough -- the Yankees haven't won in seven years. :D)

Yet when he does win, he wins in so many, so many ways. It's just fascinating to watch. He's won with great comebacks ... he's won in 12-shot routs ... he's won by just plain outshooting guys ... he's won by grinding it out with 72s and waiting for guys to make mistakes ... he's won by holing out a freak shot on 16 ... he's won by summoning up one last exhausting shot on a playoff hole ... he's won with a tinkered swing, and then a retinkered swing ... he's won by outdriving guys ... he's won where he couldn't hit a fairway to save his life ... he's won by being white-hot with the putter ... he's won by laying up ... he's won by going for broke ... etc., etc., etc.

    It never gets old.

When Jack was playing, we said, "There will never be another like him." And there's not.

Now Tiger's playing, and we say, "There will never be another like him." And there won't be.

It was almost sunset when Clark and Wetterich finished. Do they move the tee times for Sunday up, given the slow play, in case there's a sudden-death playoff, or does everyone have to come back Monday?
And who's doing the TV commentary across the pond?

HIS GREEN JACKET HOPES STILL ALIVE! HA HAAAAA!"

    What a dickslap

The weather's not expected to be much better Sunday, with a high near 57 and more wind.

Yeah, the rounds today for twosomes was taking more than 4 1/2 hours.

CBS is on at 11:30 tomorrow morning (Left Coast bias) and has full 18-hole coverage. I think the last group goes off 15 minutes or so after that.

USGA should cut the rough and dump about 10,000 gallons of water on the greens at Oakmont this year and just make it a birdie festival. One of these a year is enough.

I will say this about Tiger, yes he's the best in the business right now, but let's see him lose a heartbreaker for once instead of always doing the heartbreaking.

I don't remember a time when he's been beaten like that. Maybe I'm wrong.

There's a reason he's never been beaten like that.

He's tougher than all his competition.

Rich Beem did a nice job of it in 2002.

The only interesting part of today's round was watching Appleby blow up on 17 the way he did. It was horrible to watch. No one wanted to take any chances because playing E, +1 golf was the best way to play. I don't blame them at all for this, but it makes for really uninteresting golf from a fan's standpoint.

Appleby can stand up to Tiger a little bit, certainly more so than Wetterich. I'm glad some names are lurking. I just hope the wind calms a bit so we can see some people attack pins. It just didn't happen today.

Final-round pairings out. Last group goes off at 2:15 Eastern. Wonder if CBS will come on earlier.
