Dear Simon: Can you imagine what Augusta National would look like after the USGA got through with it? 400 might be the winning score.

I don't know where there would be more bloodshed, in the 300 in movie theaters, or the 300 that might win that.

I must say this about the membership of Augusta National. A bunch of unrecsonstructed Southern reactionaries they may be. But their ideas about how to put on a sports event sure dovetail with mine. I guess it's that ultimate meeting of left and right political scientists talk about.
    BTW: They are gracious hosts.

This is the sort of leaderboard that is going to kill viewership of the PGA Tour.

The PGA Tour is a serious Tiger Woods injury from being unwatchable.

There were so many personalities with big talent in the 1970s and 1980s (not unlike men's tennis), and now it is a pile of tin cans around a gold ingot.

Wow, notice the hometown hero sitting in second. He's a hell of a guy and with Mize's 20th anniversary this weekend, it'd be one hell of a way to honor that. And it's going to kill viewership?

Where's a Great White Shark for him to slay with a 160-foot chip?

Mize already did the hometown thing in a way that will not be approached. I'm not interested.

Where's Nicklaus... Seve.... Watson.... Faldo.... Floyd.... Player... Trevino..... ? Even a Fuzzy, a Walrus, a Crenshaw, Langer, Olazabal....

Those guys were very talented, along with being charismatic and photogenic.

This crew... I couldn't pick 95 percent of them from a police lineup.

If one of them wins the Masters, you'll recognize them from then on.

I respectfully disagree. I think anytime you have new blood about to join golf's royal line, then it makes for compelling TV and you just know someone's going to have a major meltodown.

Maybe the cool and windy weather has something to do with the lower scores, but I don't want the winning score to be even or -1. The Masters is about back nine charges... look at Jack in '86, or Mickel-teats' first green jacket. I, for one, don't want to see El Tigre grind out six straight pars at Augusta to hold on to a one-shot lead. Let the USGA have that bullshit.

Charges are what makes Augusta great... and if it means the winning score is somewhere between -8 and -11, so be it.
