Because everyone on earth knows they're scum and the whole idea of this scam is that people will pay $100 to watch in the hopes both of them will get hurt. So they're being extra scummy to rope in the rubes. It'll be like all of Mayweather's fights, deadly dull, since he never, ever would've done this if he wasn't sure McGregor can't hit him.

They get a pass because they're not viewed as people. Or at least good people. Animals are expected to act accordingly. If these guys were polite and deferential no one would watch them. Fans WANT them to act like assholes.

Thomas Hauser wrote a very good three-part series on this. The first one does as good a job explaining why it won't be competitive as anything I've ever read.

    Mayweather-McGregor: Part I – The Sting - The Ring

The second one is kind of funny, counting the number of "fucks" and other things they said at the rallies.

Mayweather-McGregor: Part II – The Dark Underside - The Ring

    Here is the third one

Mayweather-McGregor: Part III - The Larger Issues - The Ring

Now, Ring is owned by Golden Boy and I guess you can say they have an agenda because they're also promoting Canelo/Triple G on Sept. 16 and if people can only afford one PPV, Mayweather/McGregor would cut into their sales.

But I can't blame them; Canelo/Triple G is a much better fight on paper. Yes, it may turn out to be a dud, but I don't think anyone is lying if they're selling it is a legitimately competitive fight. After all, both fighters are in just about everyone's top-10 pound-for-pound lists.

I don't think anyone can honestly sell Mayweather/McGregor as competitive.

It's fight week, everyone. Can you feel the ... sigh ... excitement?

Mostly I'm looking forward to the day after, when everyone complains about how boring the fight was.

I'll admit, I bit on the hype a little bit last week after some of the sparring footage was released, even thought for a second that McGregor actually has more than a puncher's chance.

But then I put down that Kool-Aid and rejoined reality.

Anybody here actually going to pay for it? No judgment. There is definitely part of me that wants to, but I've decided to go to a baseball game that night instead.

They both seem like asshats. I have no interest.

Not paying, but a local ad agency has a 100-seat theater and I've been invited to a watch party there.

For Mayweather-Pacquiao, by the fourth round, beer pong and poker games were getting more interest than the fight. I suspect this might be the same deal.

    Your instinct is correct.

There is something symbiotic about the eclipse and this fight happening in the same week. It won't last more than 2 and half minutes? It's going to be years since we see another like this? We're all going to want to protect our eyes and not look directly at it?

Only a small group of people will fully enjoy it. Everyone else on the periphery will be like "meh."
