It's worth noting that Mayweather was not 40 years old when he fought those guys.

McGregor might have a slightly better chance than most think, if only because people are underestimating the Mayweather aging factor. 40 is really friggin old for a fighter who relies so heavily on quickness and reflexes. And he hasn't stepped in the ring with anybody in two years--and not with anybody genuinely formidable in around four years--so we've really not seen enough in recent years to know how much he might've slowed down.

I'm pretty sure both guys have scripted out the fight for maximum benefit to each.

It's worth noting that he's fighting a guy making his pro debut. A rematch with Canelo might not go so well, but against somebody who hasn't boxed since he was 17, I don't think there's any reason to think the other guy has a chance.

Yeah, I guess you can't really assume it's on the level.

Not for nothing, but he's continued boxing, he just hasn't had an actual match. I know nothing beats getting out there and fighting for 12 rounds for real, but McGregor does boxing sparring sessions quite a lot in his MMA camp. Again, he's not Mayweather, but he's not the local winner of the Ironman competition. My prediction is still Mayweather in UD, probably winning 10 of 12 rounds (I'll give McGregor a couple of rounds when Mayweather feels he's got the fight and slacks off a little to save energy).

Oh, and for what it's worth, Paulie Malignaggi said he was surprised with McGregor's cardio level and his ability to go hard for 12 rounds. But that was before they had their falling out and now Paulie is saying McGregor is a bum. LOL

Joe Rogan, resident MMA meathead, says if McGregor were to win, he would become the greatest athlete in the history of sports. Among all the ridiculous statements made during this circus, this one may be the most absurd.

I definitely wouldn't touch the Round 1 knockout prop bets, on either guy.

It's a part of his training but it's not his sport. MMA and boxing are different sports.
I've heard that "a punch is a punch" argument and it doesn't make sense.

Interesting that others have brought up the naughty "fix" aspect of this. My mind began to wander about this fight a few days ago, into the realm of match fixing.

Maybe I'm out of my mind, but would anyone put that past these two? Obviously Mayweather has the most to lose in a historical perspective, but how much would it take to go down that road? How much would a rematch be worth? How much money could be made on large bets, through others, on McGregor pay?

I don't see the fighters being in on a fix. There's just nothing in it for Mayweather -- I can't picture guy with hundreds of millions of dollars in the bank taking a dive to set up another payday. It doesn't make sense. And there's nothing for McGregor to fix.

I will say, if I'm Mayweather I do everything I can to keep this from going the distance. No way I risk a decision no matter what kind of mismatch it is.

From the training camp video I saw McGregor looks like a strong, awkward, slow lefty. Unless he has Golovkin-type power, he will probably have no idea on how to cut the ring off even on a 40-year-old Mayweather who hasn't fought in two years. Mayweather will win this one whenever and however he chooses.

Will the whole MMA fighter enters boxing ring angle be played out if there's a rematch? Without that, what you got?
