I'll admit, I do find it very entertaining when he ignores Hs because of his accent.

"Floyd t-inks he's going to beat me, but he will be t-anking his lucky stars the fight is over after t-ousands of my t-underous punches end his career for good and I steal his sport like a t-ief in the night."

The fact that he's Irish helps a lot. And while it's fraught to say so, the fact that he's white does, too.

Hand to hand combat to entertain the masses is still man at his worst, so splashes of racism and nationalism only sweeten the pie.

I hadn't even considered the racial element until I heard Screamin' A and Whitlock hitting those notes on all those silly sports debate shows when the fight was made official. (In my defense, I don't watch those shows, but the clips are being passed around in the usual MMA media circles I frequent.)

I gotta admit, my first reaction was an eyeroll, probably because of all the random storylines to come out of this shitshow, race is the last one my mind went to. But I say that as a white man for whom race is not a big factor in life. I know the history of boxing and combat sports is rife with racial overtones, but is that really still much of a talking point now? I'm genuinely curious.

White people box about as well as they jump.

I don't know how much of a talking point it will be, but I think if McGregor were a black American doing what he does, he'd be regarded much like Floyd Mayweather. McGregor's behaviour is more acceptable to white people because he's white.

I do find it interesting how similar the two guys are in that regard. Both guys are showy assholes who love to brag about how much money they make or are worth. And sadly you are probably right that one does seem more tolerated than the other. Personally, I hate it from both of them. But there are many other reasons I and others dislike Floyd more. That has more to do with the punches he throws outside of the ring.

Oh, and another key difference between the two is McGregor leases his Bentleys. Mayweather actually owns them.

Mayweather's extracurricular violence is absolutely a factor, and a deserving one.

McGregor actually has a habit of purposefully draining his bank account after a big payday to make himself fight again. I can see how it's an effective strategy, so long as you do fight again. But I fairly strongly suspect he will end up broke.

That has long been my suspicion, too. Even before he was making seven-figure paydays, he was spending like he was.

This fight will set him up for awhile, and many in the MMA media are wondering if he ever comes back to the UFC, especially now that he is a father. If I recall correctly, a couple of years ago he tweeted something like "Get in, get rich and get out." I don't really like the guy, but he is damn fun to watch fight so it would be a shame if he doesn't come back to MMA.

I just read that he might make $100 million from this fight. If he does, I would guess that he's gone.

McGregor's behavior is only acceptable to assholes and bullies.

What are the percentages on a double knockout finish?
