I really don't think that dumping Donovan McNabb like this is their best move. Not by a long shot.

But, given the Eagles' track record, they'll probably find a way to make it work. They felt that they were trading from a position of strength given their depth at quarterback, not to mention that Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick combined probably weren't costing them as much as McNabb. Given team management, I can promise you that played a role in this as much as McNabb's age, the young talent in the other positions and the team's faith in Andy Reid's ability to piece together the offense without him.

Ozzie and Co. are very good, but they have their fair share of misses, as even the best teams do. They've blown high picks on QBs and WRs for years.

Funny how the Joe Flacco pick helped bury the Kyle Boller disaster. But without question, while the Ravens have fared better in the draft than most, even they've had their share of misses.

The Eagles have done a great job putting themselves in a position to win the Super Bowl, but only once pushed themselves over the hump.

I want to see who/what they get in the draft before I make any more judgments on this trade, but right now, it's a shame. Philadelphia blew its wad in telling teams it wanted to deal McNabb, thus lowering his trade value.

Plus, if the Eagles made such great personnel moves in the last 10 years, they should have won at least one Super Bowl in that span.

Anyone know the details of McNabb's contract? From what I remember hearing, it was the contract that was killing his trade value. It was more $$$ than teams wanted to pony up for him.

Well, it could be argued that the primary reason they didn't make it over the hump is because of McNabb's performance in the biggest games. So if that's really your issue, you shouldn't be so upset about trading a guy on the downside of his career who wasn't able to deliver a championship at his peak. Can't have it both ways.

Rumple: I'm a little partial, but you can't really think Macho Harris underperformed?

I'll go with what I said about Fokou. The jury is still out. If both players perform well in 2010, then I'll bold their names.

    YGBFKM,

The Eagles COULD HAVE played in more Super Bowls with McNabb under the helm if they surrounded him with talent. You don't put your franchise quarterback on the field with wide receivers such as James Thrash, Todd Pinkston, Freddie Mitchell (save me about the 4th-and-26 catch) and Antonio Freeman. They finally got wise and picked up Terrell Owens in 2004, but he and Westbrook were their only weapons.

T.O. in his prime and Westbrook in his prime were his "only" weapons? Continue to be McNabb's biggest fan, but if you're going to give him the credit he deserves, you also need to call him out for not performing well in some of those title games and the one SB he played in. McNabb had plenty of weapons to work with last year and the offense disappeared at the end of the season -- in the team's two biggest games. You probably think that wasn't his fault, but, again, if the Eagles felt he could still get the team to at least the brink of a title, they wouldn't have made this move.

    Re: McNabb a Redskin

T.O. and Westbrook in their primes were his only weapons in 2004. I didn't say he's ever had.

McNabb definitely didn't play well in every championship game he led the Eagles into, but you need to look at what he had around him.

2002 -- Chad Lewis, James Thrash, Todd Pinkston and Freddie Mitchell

2003 -- Antonio Freeman, Todd Pinkston and James Thrash

2004 -- He played with broken ribs throughout the first half until he was pulled in the second. I'd rather have an injured McNabb than a healthy Koy Detmer.

2005 -- Finally guided them to a Super Bowl, without T.O. in the NFC Championship Game

2005 Super Bowl -- Forced too many throws

2009 -- Gave the Eagles the lead but the defense squandered it

And yes, the Eagles' offense did disappear in the last two games of the season, but they were also playing without a healthy Westbrook and against a team that figured them out in the final game of the regular season. And before you say it, McNabb is the quarterback and he makes the offense run. He deserves some of the blame, but not all of it.

Let me clarify. I'm not upset about the timing of the trade, I'm just upset at what they got back for him. Oakland had a nice package ready for the Eagles if they wanted it.

What was Oakland offering? And if it was better, why didn't they make that deal?
